This Belfast Home Bursts with Bold Patterns and Bright Colors
Five years ago, when Julie Jeongeun Choi and her husband, Adam Irvine, were looking for homes in Belfast, it took them a couple of visits before committing to their current home.

The four-bedroom, 1900-square-foot home is over 100 years old and had its unique original details — like the high ceilings and big bay windows (two of Choi’s favorite characteristics!). But there were some renovations the couple wanted to tackle before moving in. Once those were completed, it was time to infuse their own personalities in the space.
“I would say my decor style is colorful, eclectic, fun, and bold,” Choi writes. “My husband likes quirky stuff, too, so we’re not here for a plain and simple house.”
Choi and Irvine’s home is the opposite of plain — in the best way. It’s filled with several complementary patterns and colors, and painting the walls is one of Choi’s favorite DIY activities. Their seamless combination of varying shades isn’t as easy as just picking vibrant colors, though.
“When I plan to change the whole space, I would research a lot on social media too,” Choi writes. “I often search for two colors I want to use, like ‘lavender and orange,’ and when I typed this, a picture of a pretty lavender in a terracotta pot came up and I thought that was the color for our bedroom!”
