We Asked 140 Designers About 2026’s Biggest Trends — Their Top Pick Shocked Us
Trendspotting is what we do best at Apartment Therapy. We’re at all the big national design trade shows and international markets, and we’re on every major home decor brand’s radar for sharing new collections and launches. But our biggest partners in trendsetting? All the interior designers out there in the world, who are working in real spaces. These visionaries set the tone for what our homes look like, and that’s why we go straight to the source every year to look back at where design took us — and how it’s evolving in the future.
For five years now, we’ve commissioned our “The State of Home Design” survey, and the pros continue to deliver by spilling the tea on everything from “it” colors and emerging decor styles to the vintage finds everyone will be shopping for next year. For the first time ever, though, we’re sharing all of our findings in a handy downloadable trend report, which you can save to your phone or print out (if you’re a hard-copy kind of a person). It’s the closest thing you can get to a home design crystal ball, and it’s completely free and only available here.

Some of the biggest findings for 2026 you’ll see in it? Architectural features like alcoves, book nooks, and specialty millwork are upping homes’ cozy and uniqueness factors (just look at the Pasadena Showcase show house library here by designer Julia Chasman), while color palettes continue to warm up and reference the natural world. Kitchens have gotten bolder, more bespoke, and more high-tech, but traditional cabinetry, furniture-like features, and handmade tiles (hello, Delft, a big break from boring neutrals!) are anchoring even the shiniest, newest cook spaces in history.
And bathrooms? You won’t believe the throwback trends designers are taking straight out of time-capsule baths and reinventing for the new year and beyond.
When multiple designers say the same thing — and 140 of them total, at that! — you can feel pretty confident about their predictions. That’s why we keep coming back to this survey; the findings will help you decorate with creativity, longevity, and your own well-being in mind. And that’s at the very heart of Apartment Therapy’s mission as a brand. Download the trend report PDF, and get ready to make these talented designers’ bright ideas your own!
