These visionaries set the tone for what our homes look like, and that’s why we go straight to the source every year to look back at where design took us — and how it’s evolving in the future. 

For five years now, we’ve commissioned our “The State of Home Design” survey, and the pros continue to deliver by spilling the tea on everything from “it” colors and emerging decor styles to the vintage finds everyone will be shopping for next year. Some of the biggest findings for 2026 you’ll see in it? Architectural features like alcoves, book nooks, and specialty millwork are upping homes’ cozy and uniqueness factors (just look at the Pasadena Showcase show house library here by designer Julia Chasman), while color palettes continue to warm up and reference the natural world. Kitchens have gotten bolder, more bespoke, and more high-tech, but traditional cabinetry, furniture-like features, and handmade tiles (hello, Delft, a big break from boring neutrals!) are anchoring even the shiniest, newest cook spaces in history.
