Two Sisters Furnished Their 100-Year-Old LA Rental Entirely With Secondhand Finds
It wasn’t love at first sight when Taylor Williams first saw this two-bedroom, 1,350-square-foot Los Angeles rental home her sister, Lauren Williams, found for rent on Facebook Marketplace.

“We had been looking for six months or so and wanted something with enough space and parking (I love outdoor space to complete DIY projects),” Taylor begins.
“I was traveling heavily at the time so my sister signed the lease in person while I was away! I didn’t see the home until we had already signed the lease so I was still a bit in shock whenever I first saw it.”
Firstly, there was the problem of natural light, or more specifically, the lack thereof. Taylor knew that she and her sister would have to get creative with lighting and mirrors to brighten up the space. Secondly, while the 100-year-old space had some classic 1920s Crafstman features, it also came with some “landlord specials tacked on (aka lots of thick white paint).”
But, thanks to the sisters’ incredible secondhand sourcing skills, three years later, Taylor says they love the place as if they own it. It’s now warm, colorful, inviting — “like your cool auntie’s house!”
