When Caroline Lunne, the founder of Migrate Marketing, a Charleston-based creative agency, first saw her future home, she described it as being “in bad shape.” She lived down the street and would often pass the two-bedroom house that was built in 1937.

That feeling of distaste softened on Caroline’s many walks past the historic house. “Every time I passed it, I’d imagine what it could be. I always knew I wanted a project, something with history and heart, and this house seemed to be waiting for someone to tell its next story,” she admits.

Then, three years ago, although Caroline wasn’t necessarily in the market for a new home, this house appeared for sale online. She literally ran to the house, and the rest is history. Knowing that the space needed a lot of work, she knew it was risky, but she thought she’d have bigger regrets if she didn’t follow through with buying the house.

Eventually, Caroline, her dad, and a group of handymen began the renovation — and it only took three months to complete. It was their goal to keep as many features of the home original as possible; for instance, they kept the original flooring and refinished it.

“I love the charm of this home. During the renovation, I tried to maintain as much of the original feel throughout the design,” Caroline shares. “Every room has a personality, and every corner feels like it’s been lived in. But what I love most is that the house feels like a conversation between who lived here before me, who I am now, and who I’m becoming as I renovate it.”
