This 98-Year-Old Illinois Home Is the Definition of Thoughtful, Lived-In Style
When blogger Camilla Fabbri and her husband, David, first purchased this three-bedroom house 23 years ago in Evanston, Illinois, it was freshly painted and move-in ready. “[I]t was perfect for a family with a newborn at the time. A lot of the original details were intact, which is what we loved about it.”
“We knew we wanted to purchase this home the first moment we entered the front door — it has tons of light, a wonderful layout and good energy. It is on the small side, but I really do prefer smaller spaces — they are cozy, fun to decorate, and easy to clean. Entertaining large crowds is a bit of a challenge — but we just move our furniture around or set up additional seating in our backyard and make it work,” Camilla writes.
Camilla has spent the last two decades adding personality to the home while also trying to respect the age of the architecture. “We cosmetically updated the kitchen and powder room — the look is coastal/cottage,” Camilla describes.
“We replaced some 1970s light fixtures and painted nearly every room Benjamin Moore ‘Simply White’ — it’s the most beautiful tone, makes everything look great. Instead of a rug in the dining room, I had the floor painted with a tinted epoxy paint so spills from our young girls could be wiped up easily.”
“We are very proud of our home, we love it, and it loves us back. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else,” Camilla writes.
