Assorted colorful earrings and jewelry displayed on a blue tray next to patterned fabric pouches and a pink case.

After years and years of having knotted necklaces, losing earrings, and just forgetting I own certain rings, I’ve finally, finally figured out a way to get my jewelry organized. It’s not that I haven’t tried different methods for organizing my jewelry before. I had my jewelry-stand-on-a-dresser phase. Stacked boxes seemed like a great idea, but those didn’t work for me. Jewelry drawer organizers and old-fashioned jewelry boxes just weren’t a fit, either. I considered an unusual product, like a hanging jewelry organizer with clear plastic pockets, but I didn’t personally like the look of it.

The Two Biggest Problems I Was Looking to Solve

I needed to find a solution that did two things.

1. I needed a jewelry organizing system that displayed pieces in a visually pleasing way.

Storing jewelry in drawers and boxes basically made me forget about pieces. So I never wore anything. And even if I did remember to look in a jewelry box, I could never see past the visual noise of tangled necklaces and stacks of bracelets. It was simply easier for me to avoid the mess of metal and clay than to try to pick something out. Accessorizing wasn’t fun anymore.

2. I needed a jewelry organizing system that’s quick and easy to use.

Tossing earrings into a drawer — although chaotic — takes no time at all. But an organizing solution that involves having to remove earring backs for storing and wearing earrings? That’s one too many steps for me. I like to try out different earrings when I’m outfit planning, and the bathroom counters would be littered with pairs that I couldn’t bother to put back away. I can understand how silly that sounds, but it’s a truth about myself I’ve come to accept.

I needed to find a jewelry organizing solution that allowed me to see everything I had (so I’d be more inspired to wear my pieces), and it had to be SUPER easy to put jewelry back (so I’d be inspired to keep the organizational system going).

These 3 Finds Finally Helped Me Organize My Jewelry for Good

I discovered a type of earring holder with slots in addition to holes. It’s an incredibly simple solution, but one I just never knew about until I happened upon it. Now, instead of having to remove the backs off the earrings before taking them off and on the organizer, I can just slide the earrings into the slots. Putting them back after trying a bunch on or after a night out has never been easier.

The other parts of the jewelry puzzle were rings and necklaces, but I knew hooks would work well for the necklaces, considering how well the slots worked for my earrings. So I chose some simple metal hook strips. For rings I realized I could also use hooks, and found these nice acrylic wall-mounted necklace holders.

Why I Love the MaxGear Acrylic Necklace Holders, the Humberboat Wall Mounted Earring Organizers, and the Bussddis Adhesive Necklace Hooks

They’re renter-friendly.

These three products are all wall-mountable, which was perfect for where I planned to install them: inside the doors of our DIY wooden bathroom cabinet. While I did end up installing the earring holders with screws, all three of the products came with renter-friendly adhesive hanging strips, which I opted for with the necklace and ring holders. I was nervous they wouldn’t be able to handle the weight of my jewelry, but they’ve been installed for months with no issue — and in my humid bathroom, no less.

They’re customizable.

I did have to do some creative cutting of the earring organizer so that it would fit within the space of our cabinet’s existing shelves. But because the earring organizer is made of wood, I was able to use a handsaw to hack off its bottom to make it work. To accommodate my jewelry collection, I purchased (and customized) two of the Wall Mounted Earring Organizers, one package of the adhesive necklace hooks (which came two per package), and a four-pack of the MaxGear Acrylic Necklace Holder.

A note before purchasing: Two of the products have a “frequently returned” flag on them. I haven’t personally experienced the issues some reviewers are mentioning, but please read through the reviews yourself to make sure these products will work for you. For instance, there is room for my earrings between the earring holder and the wooden door, but perhaps the way I hung them sets them far enough away for my earrings to fit. And the white necklace hooks are attached to my painted wood cabinet door with the adhesive stickers sent with the product. Mine have been stuck and stable since I installed them four months ago, but it looks like some reviewers are having issues with the adhesives on painted walls.

All in, I spent about $70 on all eight organizing pieces, and despite some customers having issues, all these purchases have been well worth the money for me. Not only has my entire jewelry collection stayed organized since I installed these items, but I’ve actually been wearing more of my jewelry more often. I call that a win-win!
