The bathroom is the unsung hero of the home. It’s there for you during good times, bad times, and times when the water in your best friend’s apartment gets shut off and she really needs to take a shower. It’s also there for potential buyers to see when you’re showing your home to sell.

No matter what you’re doing in the bathroom or who you’re showing it to, it’s going to be a better experience for everyone if the scenery is pleasant, and even better if you don’t break the bank to make it so. Per the National Association of Realtors, 54% of people who staged components of their house on the market chose to stage their bathroom as well. That’s why I reached out to designer and home stager Cathy Hobbs of Cathy Hobbs Design Recipes and Highland Passive House, to get her advice on how to make your bathroom look its best using products from Anthropologie — and all her recommendations cost $200 total.

Botanist Towel Ring
$52

“Bathrooms are often relatively small, so it is important to make selections that are both purposeful and functional,” Hobbs explains. “The Botanist Towel Ring is both while also adding a ‘jewel’ element that instantly catches the eye and adds a sense of bling.” Plus, potential buyers will be impressed by your attention to detail.

Maude Toilet Paper Holder
$58

Hobbs says that “hardware is one of the most important elements of a bathroom when it comes to setting the tone for style and design.” If you don’t want any major changes, it’s easy to elevate your bathroom’s design by upgrading smaller, more overlooked components, like a toilet paper holder. This one, made from polished brass, “adds a timeless sense of luxury.”

Nena Flower Knobs, Set of 2
$24

“Cabinetry is ideal in a bathroom when looking to hide those items that you don’t want visible,” Hobbs notes. If the storage spaces in your bathroom look a bit bland, impress guests (and open house attendees) with chic, playful accents. “The Nena Flower Knobs are classic while also providing a joyous sense of whimsy,” she says.

Maeve by Anthropologie Scalloped Cotton Bath Mat
$48

Your bathroom floor probably isn’t the most exciting part of your house, but that doesn’t mean it can’t have style. “One key element that can be brought in is a neutral bath mat to help to ground the space,” Hobbs says. She recommends Anthropologie’s Maeve Scalloped Cotton Bath Mat in Taupe, which she calls “both sculptural and functional.”

The Gather Candle by Anthropologie: Pumpkin & Sweet Vanilla
$18

One important aspect of preparing to sell is making sure your home smells nice, especially in areas like the bathroom. “There is perhaps no better way to do that than by adding a beautiful candle,” Hobbs notes. This candle, which comes in a patterned glass vessel, is under $20 and “will instantly add a sense of richness and deep color,” even when it’s not lit.
