I write about house tours (but I love a good kitchen and kids' room article). My work can be found across AT Media, including The Kitchn and Cubby. I’ve been writing about home-related topics for nearly five years and love seeing how people make their homes unique.

Living rooms often have televisions, speakers, DVD players (I still have mine!), record players, gaming systems — the list can go on and on. And while these gadgets have numerous benefits and uses, they also come with several cords and can be somewhat of an eyesore. Sometimes, it’s better to stash them away to keep a room — especially a small space at that — from looking cluttered. Enter: a gorgeous media console.

Living in a small apartment and being diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), I need things to look as uncluttered as possible. However, I’m not a minimalist. I love collecting things and I live with a musician (my husband!) who’s constantly purchasing new records. So, when I had the chance to test the Article Torme 54-inch media unit, I was so excited.

What Is the Article Torme 54-Inch Media Unit?

What impressed me the most was the sleek design of the media console. The rounded edges and bevelled, knob-free cabinet doors create a perfect blend of Scandinavian-inspired and mid-century modern design. It’s made of oak and pine, and Article says that no two pieces are the same. It comes in three sizes (54-, 72-, and 140-inch) and two colors (smoked oak and white oak). I tested the 54-inch console in smoked oak, knowing it would be perfect for any small apartment.

What I Loved About the Article Torme 54-Inch Media Unit

I love how high-quality the Article Torme 54-Inch Media Unit feels. Not only does it have soft-close doors (always a luxury to me!), but there are also two cord holes in the back, making it the perfect spot for clunky technology.

Speaking of storage, three cabinet doors enclose two adjustable shelves. The shelves are 20 inches deep and feel so expansive. Even if I store tech gadgets inside the media console, I’ll likely have room for baskets to store miscellaneous items. The top of the media console is so sleek and is deep enough to hold lamps, frames, a coffee machine — you name it. (We actually used it at my engagement party and had two serving towers with more than 100 cupcakes on top.)

Why the Article Torme 54-Inch Media Unit Is Great for Small-Space Storage

Although I opted for the smallest size, the console still packs a lot of storage space inside. Here are just a few reasons why it’s great for small-space storage.

  • The two holes in the back help hide and disguise snaking cords, which are an eyesore.
  • Two adjustable shelves make it customizable, allowing you to fit all your storage needs.
  • There are two cabinet sizes (one larger and one smaller). You might want to store commonly used objects in the smaller cabinet with the left-opening door.
  • It’s 24 inches tall, so it doesn’t feel huge. (It fits perfectly under my window.)
  • The media unit might only have one published review — it’s super new! — but it’s five stars, and the person wrote, “Just what we wanted.”

If you live in a small space and are looking for a high-quality investment piece, consider the Article Torme Media Unit. It’s great for hiding clutter and can store just about anything. Plus, it’s sleek, subtle, and timeless, so even if you move to a bigger apartment, you can use it in just about any room. I can envision it as a bar cart, coffee station, entryway table, or shoe cabinet. It’s so versatile and a well-made piece.
