Things are about to get drippy around here! According to a new survey published by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), all things metallic are about to dominate American homes as designers eye lustrous kitchen hardware, shiny statement lighting, and exquisite details drenched in shiny decadence.

The 2026 ASID Trends Outlook Report says “melted, metallic finishes” are among the biggest influences interior designers are seeing come to the forefront of client wish lists. These fluid details are part of a larger move toward tactile, immersive, and atmospheric finishes.

“Metallic finishes are evolving beyond polished brass and chrome into more fluid, expressive interpretations that read as both sculptural and sensory,” the organization’s report reads. It also noted that exhibitors at design events have recently showcased materials with “iridescent sheens, reflective textures, and liquid‑like qualities, blending metal and glass to create dreamlike dimensionality in furniture, lighting, and surface details.”

“Melting” Metal Design Will Come in All Shapes and Sizes

Think: organic, wavy, curvy shapes done in shiny chromes, nickels, and glass. Decor pieces like this set of candleholders from Urban Outfitters fit the category perfectly — they look like something out of a lava lamp and are basically usable pieces of art.

Fluid metals will mainly be seen in finishes. Consider this hardware set from Zara; they’re brass but not a perfect circle, which gives them movement.

“Broader design reporting notes the resurgence of chrome and nickel finishes alongside traditional metals, signaling a transition in how metallic materials are stylistically deployed: as focal accents, sculptural highlights, and emotive surface treatments that interplay with light and space,” the report continues.

The metal cabinet pulls (pictured above) in a Brooklyn kitchen, for example, are a bit more artistically designed than traditional brass handles. The corners are unexpectedly rounded, and the metal color isn’t one tone or the other — but rather somewhere between brass and copper, making it a focal point without doing much heavy lifting.

Organic, melting metals are going to be everywhere in 2026, according to ASID, so go with the flow and consider creating space in your home for this shiny detail. Curves, swirls, and irregularity are about to be all the rage.
