Thea and Pete’s newly renovated home is a true melding of their tastes and talents. Thea has a retail and online store and workshop space called Meet Gather Collect, where she sells gorgeous artwork, decor, and homeowners by local and Australian makers; much of the decor in the home is either sourced or made by her. Pete, meanwhile, has his own furniture and design company, Curious Tales, and handled much of the home’s renovation himself, designing and renovating the kitchen, putting in custom cabinetry, and adding new flooring throughout the home.
Along with being incredibly talented, these two creative entrepreneurs must also be quite organized; they’ve only lived in their newly renovated home for three months AND they have brand new baby, 6-week-old Archer, but still their home is beautiful and inspiring. That’s fortunate for lovers of organic modern, nature-inspired, minimal, textured spaces.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: I would say that it is an eclectic mix of handmade and mid-century/retro pieces that I have collected over the years.
Inspiration: Australian designers, color, and natural elements and textures.
Favorite Element: I would have to say that it would be all our beautiful handmade furniture made by my husband. It’s the first time we have been able to make a space really ours and enjoy his craftsmanship.
Biggest Challenge: Not over doing it with too many pieces and making it over cluttered. As I have a passion for handmade products it can be really hard not to buy everything!
What Friends Say: That our space is really us. It’s beautifully styled with handmade products and use of color. Love that we have been able to introduce so many elements and textures.
Biggest Embarrassment: Having renovated the kitchen, we’re still not 100% finished with the cabinets in the bathroom as we ran out of time to finish all those small things… our little one arrived right on schedule.
Proudest DIY: Our kitchen, which we love. We did the whole thing ourselves, designing it, Pete making the whole kitchen, and using handmade tiles. Being the first time we have done a kitchen, we are pretty chuffed with it.
Biggest Indulgence: Definitely renovating our kitchen. It was original ’90s, so livable but not so practical. We really wanted to put our own spin on the place and now it really feels like us and is really user friendly.
Best Advice: Always allow more time for renovations than you initially think as you never have enough time. Go with elements you love not because they are on trend as you have to love the space and live in it. Last of all, don’t be afraid to add a bit of color with pieces, especially artwork, as it’s a great way to introduce color and your own style.
Dream Sources: More Australian makers! So many great ones…
