Not only does this IKEA Hacker project by Huib von Essen reuse and refresh three discontinued IKEA BOALT CD racks, but the solution even incorporates 15 clear empty CD cases as transparent shelves for displaying small items (on a related note, CD racks installed horizontally also work great as toy shelving/display) …and you know you’ve got at least a few of those empty cases laying around somewhere.

Combined with a pair of IKEA LEDBERG LED lighting strips ($15), the illuminated shelving unit is held together using a twice looped shock cord (a more seamless option is to adhere each unit together using wood glue, clamped together while drying), with a pair of the LED lighting strips slipped and adhered into the slots available through each of the bottom of the BOALT CD racks. The result is a perfect display and storage solution to showcase watches, jewelry, minerals, or any other collectibles as worthy of sharing as your “classic” Jodeci and Backstreet Boys albums you’ve held onto for safe keeping.
