In a somewhat daring move when it comes to choices for its Color of the Year (or COTY), Benjamin Moore just named Silhouette (AF-655), a rich espresso crossed with charcoal, as its selection for 2026. I say daring because the brand’s official color description does mention charcoal, a part of the gray family that’s been the punching bag of the design world for the last few years.

Make no mistake about it, though: Silhouette is as far from millennial gray as you can get. Leave it to Benjamin Moore to subtly bring gray back in the undertones of this lovely, refined brown hue that has an element of classicism to it, particularly as it relates to suiting.

“The connection between fashion and interiors has always been a source of inspiration, but this year in particular, we’ve noticed a renewed interest in suiting and classic silhouettes; the resurgence of timeless pieces; and the growing interest in the brown color family,” said Andrea Magno, director of color marketing and design at Benjamin Moore, in a press release about the launch. “Silhouette embodies these qualities with its depth and luxurious blend of burnt umber and delicate charcoal undertones. Like a perfectly tailored suit, this hue has the versatility and softness to bring a space from expected to exceptional.”

Benjamin Moore’s Silhouette Is the 2026 Color of the Year

Browns have been on the rise, but I love that Benjamin Moore went with a shade that while warm overall does have a slightly cooler, almost black feel to it. The result is a color that’s super dimensional — just look at how the dappled light hits it and changes its appearance on the wall just above.

Although the color is complex, you won’t have trouble using it because, as Magno mentioned, Silhouette has a soft quality to it. It’s a deep, dark paint color, but I pick up on violet undertones alongside the charcoal ones, which give it an air of lightness despite its depth.

Still, this color is the kind of moody hue that many people are craving right now. It’s cozy enough to feel like a warm hug for your walls, but also coy. Silhouette can read as gray, brown, or black, depending on where you put it and what you pair it with.

How to Use Benjamin Moore’s Silhouette in a Home

If you’re looking for a paint shade that’s maybe darker than what you’d usually pick but still neutral, Silhouette could be your next color crush. It pairs well with crisp white trim, and I could see it working in a dining room, a bedroom, or a snug-like office.

Considering its reference point of a bespoke suit, Silhouette also feels like a great choice for a more traditional or vintage-inspired home versus a slick contemporary one. That’s also in line with the way design has been moving, as younger generations embrace decorating with flea market finds and secondhand shopping for furniture.

Silhouette is part of Benjamin Moore’s larger 2026 Color Trends Palette, which has a variety of lighter pale colors alongside more mid-tone shades that can work in so many settings. The other seven hues in the assortment include the following:
