Cozy bedroom with a teal accent wall, a blue bed, colorful pillows, and a patterned rug.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that my bedroom is the most neglected space in my apartment. It’s pretty bare-bones with a super basic bedframe that doesn’t offer much aesthetic appeal. As I was thinking of how to turn the space around, it occurred to me that a new upholstered bed frame would make the biggest impact. Let’s be honest: My bed takes up most of the small space anyway, so I’m convinced investing in a design-y bed frame will help take it to the next level.

That being said, I don’t have limitless funds; I want something affordable but still stylish. To find the best upholstered bed frame for my needs, I asked AT editors for their expert recommendations. Keep reading for their top picks under $2,000.

Camelback Bed
$1,285

Former Style Editor Blair had amazing things to say about The Inside’s Camelback Bed. “The brand operates almost like a personalized upholsterer, with 100-plus fabric options you can apply to its existing furniture silhouettes,” she wrote. “I’m so happy I splurged on this piece. It contrasts all the other boxy furniture in my bedroom, and it’s so comfortable to sleep on plus lean against if I’m reading or working.”

Upholstered Bed Frame, Queen
$695$626

While this Casper bed frame doesn’t include a headboard, the upholstered base adds a bit of style and luxury to your bedroom without overpowering the space. “The steel frame has held up wonderfully with no creaks, and its low profile was perfect for my bedroom,” said SEO Writer Hayley in her review. “The upholstery still looks as good as new, and no, I haven’t washed it once (even though the directions recommend it) so no pressure there.”

Jake Upholstered Low Headboard Bed, Queen
$1,199$959

After testing all the bed frames at Pottery Barn, editors were struck by all the customizations available on the Jake Upholstered Platform Bed. “Go bold with velvet upholstery and brass details or stay neutral with tweed and bronze — the Jake is your oyster,” wrote former editors Kendall and Nikol in their review. So if you’re looking for something super specific, this may be the way to go!

Amerlife Upholstered Lift-Up Storage Bed, Queen
$357$340

This AMERILIFE bed is a serious contender with its spacious under-bed storage and statement-making wingback headboard. “It looks way more expensive than its $350 price, and it offers tons of space for extra linens and clothing,” wrote one editor. The taller headboard makes an elegant first impression, too. You might even be able to skip wall art!

Roanhowe Upholstered Bed
$800

Editors dubbed the Roanhowe as their favorite upholstered bed frame at Ashley Furniture. “It’s mid-century modern and contemporary with its uniquely shaped legs and soft upholstery,” Nikol wrote. She also said the bed frame gave her a cozy cabin vibe due to the warm upholstery on the head and footboard, and who wouldn’t want their bedroom to feel cozy?

TÄRNKULLEN Upholstered Bed Frame
$379

If you still don’t believe you can find a stylish upholstered bed frame on a budget, just look at this one from IKEA. Blair was shocked at how expensive the TÄRNKULLEN looks IRL. “It manages to feel both minimalist and elevated, thanks to its pair-with-anything neutral fabric and detailed stitching,” she wrote. Plus, the skirted design cleverly hides your underbed storage!

Rochelle Performace Bouclé Bed
$1,299

This curved upholstered bed frame caught former SEO Editor Sarah’s eye, and I can see why! The uniquely shaped headboard and wood poster legs give it a fashionable look. What’s more, the bed frame is upholstered in a spill-resistant bouclé fabric so you don’t need to be too precious about it.

Mercury Row Bowdoin Modern Linen Upholstered Wingback Platform Bed, Queen
$988$185

Editors say this linen-upholstered bed frame is one of the best you can find at Wayfair. It has a sophisticated wingback silhouette and subtly tapered legs for added polish. The bed frame also comes in five other colors — though I’m partial to the burnt orange shade to warm up my cold white bedroom.

Thuma Signature Bed, Queen
$2,195$1,795

You can choose to buy this Thuma bed frame with or without a headboard, but I’d argue that it looks equally striking without one thanks to its all-over upholstery. “It has a cozy yet chic appearance,” wrote Lifestyle Editor Lizzy in her review. “Plus, the entire bed is padded with foam, which makes it even more cloudlike (it actually feels pleasantly squishy!).”

Latitude Run Braya Hydraulic Lift Up Storage Upholstered Platform Bed, Queen

Editors love the channeled upholstery and subtle wingback on this Wayfair bed frame. But it doesn’t just look good; it features a hydraulic-lift mechanism to give you unfettered access to roomy under-bed storage (making it perfect for small spaces!). It comes in seven colors, including a bold moss green that’ll elevate any bedroom.
