I’m Eating Jar After Jar of This “Delicious” Spread for Breakfast AND Dessert
If I don’t have a jar of nut butter in my pantry, all is wrong with the world. (It’s easily an entire food category in my book.) While my tried-and-true one will always be a classic peanut butter, I’m always down to try new and unique flavors to spice up my morning breakfast.
Last year I was introduced to Big Spoon Roasters, and my life hasn’t been the same since. The company specializes in small-batch nut butters with unique flavors (think: Carrot Cake and Lemon Cookie). Its newest flavor, Vanilla Latte Almond Butter, instantly piqued my interest. Vanilla lattes are my go-to coffee order, so I jumped at the chance to try some in a spreadable, creamy nut butter form. Here’s how it went down.
What You Should Know About Big Spoon Roasters Vanilla Latte Almond Butter
For its latest cafe drink-inspired flavor (influenced by the team’s go-to coffee order), Big Spoon Roasters collaborated with Madcap Coffee. The Michigan-based company was founded by award-winning barista Trevor Corlett and has specialized in roasting premium coffee since 2008. The company puts an emphasis on sustainability, emphasizing quality and transparent direct sourcing from producers.
The nut butter replicates the flavor of the beloved drink by blending heirloom mission almonds (from bee-friendly almonds), organic maple syrup, organic coconut oil, Ugandan Bourbon vanilla, Jacobsen sea salt, and Madcap’s Eureka Espresso. The espresso blend is sourced from East Africa and has notes of black cherry, chocolate, and orange zest. For those sensitive to caffeine, don’t worry — there’s approximately 0.3 mg of caffeine in a tablespoon serving. (An average shot of espresso has roughly 60 to 65 mg of caffeine.) The nut butter is also gluten-, palm oil-, refined sugar-, and soy-free; vegan; and non-GMO.
Big Spoon Roasters Vanilla Latte Almond Butter officially launched August 30 and is a permanent addition to the brand’s lineup. It’s available on Big Spoon’s website in a full-size 13-ounce jar for $16.99 or a mini TSA-approved 3-ounce jar for $8. You can also find it at 50 select retailers, including Madcap’s cafes in Michigan.
My Honest Review of Big Spoon Roasters Vanilla Latte Almond Butter
Big Spoon Roasters has an impressive track record, so I had high hopes for the Vanilla Latte flavor — and it did not disappoint. It’s got the same creamy consistency I’ve come to expect from its other nut butters, with little speckles of almonds throughout that provide a bit of grit on the tongue. As someone who rotates between creamy and crunchy nut butters, I very much appreciate the texture here.
And the flavor is out-of-this-world: The espresso is prominent and tastes just like a freshly brewed shot. You can see little flecks of espresso throughout. It’s stunning paired with the vanilla, maple syrup, and hint of sea salt to round it all out. It’s sweet, salty, creamy, and just downright delicious. It totally lives up to its namesake and tastes just like a vanilla latte. It was seriously hard for me to put the jar down; I kept finding excuses to schmear it on everything or sneak another spoonful.
