I’m always on the hunt for the latest, greatest, and most unexpected ways to go about organizing my home. From a vintage credenza that stores blankets and living room supplies, to an old-school utensil organizer that holds desk essentials and makeup, out-of-the-box organization methods are my favorite methods.

That’s why I’m loving this idea that was recently posted on Instagram by @sisletter_joy. The video covers several brilliant organization hacks, but one really turned my head: using bookends to organize clothing in a drawer.

To keep your clothes neat, tidy, and perfectly folded in a drawer, you simply tuck a bookend underneath a row of clothes, and voila! They’ll be compressed and won’t come unfolded, especially if you’re trying to achieve that perfect “file fold.” When you want to grab something, you’ll just slide it out instead of disrupting all that nice folding. It goes to show that everyday items can live a double life as super-smart organizing hacks.

Commenters agree that bookends are ingenious when it comes to organizing clothing. As one Instagrammer said, “The bookends I especially love! Keeping the file fold is a challenge!”

You’ll need to pick up just the right bookends to make this hack work — they’ll need to have a little foot underneath that can tuck underneath the clothes. This set of four from Amazon, priced at just $13, will do the trick.

Tuck these bookends into your closet when they’re not being used, then break them out when you need to organize those drawers. I’ll be trying this hack for sure — particularly as someone who has woefully messy clothing drawers.
