Pottery Barn Just Dropped Toile Bedding That Looks 3x Its Price
As a design editor, I’m a firm believer that when it comes to toile, enough is never enough — and my browser history is proof. I have spent what feels like years dumpster diving through Etsy and eBay for antique-adjacent home decor staples dressed in whimsical toile prints, particularly those featuring pastoral motifs (which include repeating patterns of farm animals, shepherds, or rural scenes).
So imagine my squeal of delight when I learned Pottery Barn and fashion powerhouse Brandon Maxwell teamed up to dedicate an entire home decor collection to an explosion of toile.
Maxwell’s collaboration with the home retailer feels decidedly nostalgic, but ripe for modern maximalist interiors. And for anyone as obsessed with this 19th-century staple as I am (there are a lot of you, as there are over 36,000 posts on TikTok alone), you’ll immediately fall in love with Maxwell’s take on arboreal patterns.
The best part? While toile furniture and decor can easily be some of the priciest items in any market, Pottery Barn’s line starts at just $25. Plus, these toile bedding must-haves are at prices that are a mere fraction of designer options, even those on the resale market.
Why Pottery Barn’s Groveland Toile Is Worth Buying
At a time when drenching whole rooms in a single pattern (like chic striping!) is more popular than ever, Pottery Barn and Brandon Maxwell’s collaboration makes it easy to dress living rooms and dining rooms in head-to-toe toile. The capsule collection includes everything you need for full tablescapes (ceramic bowls to table runners), plus staples like ceramic vases and seasonal pumpkins, as well as chic pet accessories you didn’t know you needed.
What I personally love about Maxwell’s take on a toile print is the breadth of the subjects and scenes featured across many of the collection’s pieces. It’s far from the same pattern repeating over and over again — as illustrated in this set of stoneware appetizer plates, there’s a unifying theme of Americana-esque motifs, but each plate depicts a different scene.
You’ll discover illustrations that Maxwell says are near to his heart in his debut home decor collection, including depictions of overgrown woodlands, fishing iconography, and animals like wild horses and adorable French bulldogs.
“I love interiors, and making my spaces beautiful is a lifelong personal passion,” Maxwell said in a joint press release with Pottery Barn. “Each piece in this collection reflects aspects of my life and the quiet memories I’ve shared with the people who shaped me.”
As an avid collector, I’ve found that it can be tricky to use toile in spaces all year round; depending on the season, you may have other decor that could clash with the blue or green colorways that this pattern often relies on. I am impressed that most of the bedding items in Pottery Barn’s collection make use of a fully reversible print, including the duvet cover and pillow shams. The champagne-adjacent neutral beige on the flipside of Pottery Barn’s duvet offers a two-in-one look, meaning you can switch it up as you please.
