Whenever I’m thrifting, I always make sure I check out the crystal and glass in the home section. It’s usually a gold mine, and I love how these pieces elevate my space. One of my favorite secondhand finds is a mini cake stand. I never thought you could use a cake stand outside of the kitchen and dining room — that is, until I stumbled upon this Apartment Therapy article that shows you can use one as a bathroom organizer. I knew I had to try it!

Why Putting a Cake Stand in the Bathroom Is a Brilliant Storage Idea

My bedroom bathroom doesn’t have a medicine cabinet, so I keep many of my essentials on the counter. And while I have a bathroom tray, it’s quite cramped with all of my toiletries. Not only does the cake stand offer another option for storing my essentials, but it’s also beautiful to look at!

I scored my mini cake stand at an estate sale, but you can find similar ones online, like this one from Amazon. They really are pretty and make a great storage option if you like a little bit of glam. Plus, because it’s elevated off the counter, I could sneak a few things underneath it if I really needed to.

What Happened When I Added a Cake Stand to My Bathroom

Deciding on the best way to use my mini cake stand took a little bit of trial and error. I have double sinks, and I tried keeping the cake stand in the middle first, to store my skincare and contact solution. Storing small items like cleanser and moisturizer wasn’t the best fit, as I quickly learned that my mini cake stand wasn’t entirely flat. It dips slightly in the middle (I assume to keep baked goods secure), so storing items that don’t have a large base to sit on isn’t ideal. On to plan B!

I moved the cake stand to a corner and looked for larger items to store that wouldn’t topple over. Enter: a few lotion bottles. They’re a perfect fit, and large enough that I don’t have to worry about them falling. The cake stand now holds tanning lotion, body lotion, body cream, and a night cream. It’s like a little moisturizer corner! I love how it looks, and now I don’t have to think twice about where my lotion is.
