Candice is an amazing Austin-based stylist and sells a collection of her vintage finds on her online shop, Oh Fox Creative. Everything she salvages has a story and her home is filled with them, too! Her classic taste is showcased through her vintage hints and globe trotting finds.
Keep an eye out for her one of a kind must-haves and take a peek at her ‘found’ rugs. They’re all works of art.
My favorite part: She sent me home with a small jar of yellow tomatoes from her garden and I ate them all before getting home! Thanks for sharing, Candice!
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Simple with a touch of wanderlust.
Inspiration: Travels with my husband.
Biggest Challenge: Size. When we moved into the house (two days before our wedding!) we realized that two pieces of furniture could not physically fit into any one of the three bedrooms. Because of the way the doors and windows lie, a full bed is the largest and only piece of furniture in each room. That challenge proved to be the biggest blessing, however, because we literally gave away or sold everything else – the house simply didn’t want all of that stuff. We do have one chest of drawers in the hallway!
Proudest DIY: Our bookcases. I designed the bookcases based upon some blog tutorials I read and beautiful shelving in a Restoration Hardware catalog. My husband bought the wood, sanded and stained it, and built the shelves with pipe.
Biggest Indulgence: Our bed. After buying and returning furniture like a crazy person, I called a sweet friend with a killer eye for interior design. She listened so well, developed a vision, and guided us through product selection. Our bed was among her recommendations and I am most thrilled to have that piece – it feels simultaneously luxurious and simple.
Best Advice: My advice would be to hire someone! Again, my friend is a total tastemaker. The amount of time and money I spent before hiring her was astronomical compared to the cost of bringing on a professional who knows the craft. It will actually save you money, time, massages, AND your space will look cohesive and beautiful. If an interior designer still feels like an investment, find out if Homepolish has designers in your city. They’re an interior design company for the everyday homeowner and are making style accessible for all.
Dream Sources: Brooke Baker and Peacock Pavilions. When I described my aesthetic to my friend and designer, she responded with images of Brooke Baker’s bedroom. Brooke is an art director based on the West Coast and snapshots of her bedroom began popping up on Pinterest. As well, she happened to hang Moroccan textiles above her bed. That felt very personal to us because we traveled Morocco for part of our honeymoon.
In Marrakech we stayed at Peacock Pavilions, which blew my mind – I experienced a total design high. Before Peacock Pavilions, I never knew how to incorporate textiles from Belize, coptic crosses from Ethiopia, and statuettes from South Africa into our home. I was afraid that our house would feel random and frenetic. After spending time there, however, I completely adopted Maryam’s style – she doesn’t just tuck in little souvenirs, she displays them! Maryam’s collections include antique wardrobe from tribal Africa, bones, and other amazing slices of culture that share stories of her travel, work, and personal life.Resources of Note:
