I’ve always loved sleeping with two pillows under my head. I even have sleepy childhood memories of my dad quietly removing one from my stack to keep my neck from bending all night. Now that I’m in my early-ish 30s, though, I have enough neck pain already, which meant it was time to downsize to a single pillow. But while two might’ve been too many, one never felt right either — until I tried the Casper Hybrid Pillow.

The pillow was enthusiastically recommended to me by my husband, who, after spending years struggling to improve his sleep, credits it for the comfy rest he gets today (more on this later). We’re big fans of our Casper mattress, so when he fell in love with the Hybrid Pillow I decided to investigate further. Fast forward four years, and we’re totally obsessed. Read on to find out why it’s the only pillow we’ll ever sleep on.

What Is the Casper Hybrid Pillow?

You might’ve already guessed this from the name, but the Casper Hybrid Pillow is essentially a foam and down pillow combined. Its down-alternative fiber core is sandwiched between layers of soft foam to give you the snuggly, squishy feeling you want, while still supporting your neck and keeping its shape. It’s designed for all kinds of sleepers, and seeing as I unconsciously change positions almost constantly throughout the night, I can co-sign this claim. There’s even a removable knit zip-cover for easy washing. They’re available in standard and king sizes; we have the king size (pictured below).

Why I Love the Casper Hybrid Pillow

Firstly, the Casper Hybrid Pillow is thick. It feels more like I’m sleeping on one-and-a-half pillows, which effectively solves my pillow problem while giving me the support I’d been looking for. My husband, the original devotee, agrees: “It has the perfect height and keeps my head and neck aligned.” I haven’t experienced a stitch of neck pain or soreness since I started sleeping on it, which is huge.

Compared to the flimsy pillows of my past, the Hybrid Pillow’s heft surprised me at first (pillow-fight with caution). But what impressed me the most was how plush yet firm it feels. The brand says it’s “marshmallowy soft,” which is a spot-on descriptor for its balanced feel, in my opinion. And unlike fiber pillows that require constant fluffing, I never have to fuss with mine — even after years of nightly use. The brand has other models designed specifically for hot sleepers, but it’s worth noting that I found the pillow to feel cool and refreshing all over (every side is the right side!).

If paying $100+ for a pillow makes you squeamish, I hear you. But I will say that after four years and change, our Hybrid Pillows have held up phenomenally well. Most pillows start to lose their shape around the two-year mark, anyway, so I might even be saving money by investing in one that’ll stand the test of time. And if you’re still not convinced, consider my husband’s Casper pillow review: “The biggest compliment I can give is that I won’t sleep without it,” he says. “I leave space in my luggage for it any time I take a trip.” You know a pillow is worth having when you’re willing to check a bag for it.

Buy: Casper Hybrid Pillow, $129 (standard), $159 (king)
