It’s important to work with an interior designer who understands the meaningfulness behind a home. That’s why clients asked Hill Rondero, a designer who founded Charlotte-based Ro House Studio, to assist in the total renovation of their 1938 cabin.

The home was gifted to the clients by their neighbor, who passed away, and Hill admits that it had “immense sentimental value.” However, Ro House Studio specializes in working with homes with a story.

“The studio is known for effortlessly combining history and modernity with imagination and discipline in projects of every scale,” Hill explains. “A mix of old and new gives each client a unique space, which they can continue to layer and enrich over time.”

Even though the two-bedroom house was built in 1938, it hadn’t been updated since the ’70s. It was Hill’s job to give the home a second life, which meant updating every room while keeping the original layout intact and staying within a set budget.

“This house is proof that you don’t have to erase the past to create something fresh. By keeping the original bones and layering in soft, romantic details, we were able to transform a dated bachelor pad into a joyful family retreat,” Hill shares. “It’s a home that honors where it came from while embracing a whole new chapter.”
