This NYC Rental Proves You Can Go Bold Even Without a Major Renovation
Michelle and Will chose to work with Jennifer Hunter, the principal designer of Jennifer Hunter Design when they began renting this three-bedroom New York City apartment nine months ago. “Her work really resonated with me, and I felt inspired by the way she approaches interiors, and it aligned perfectly with what I was hoping to achieve in my own home,” Michelle begins.

“There was something about her aesthetic that immediately spoke to me,” Michelle continues. “The layer of colors, patterns, and textures as well as the way her spaces feel both elevated and livable. Her work gave me a clear sense of what was possible for my home, and I knew I wanted to work with someone whose designs felt that inspiring and thoughtful.”
Jennifer describes her vision for the apartment as something “artistic yet livable, creative yet comfortable. That vision comes to life through a carefully curated mix of furnishings, playful patterns, and vibrant pops of color. Grounded by natural materials (think wood, linen, and woven textures), the home balances warmth and character with a modern, youthful edge.”
Since it’s a rental, no major structural renovations took place, but Jennifer didn’t let those constraints get in the way of designing a bold and interesting space. “A home is not meant to be too precious; it is meant to be lived in,” Jennifer writes.
“The best interiors embrace the marks of daily life, evolving tastes, and layers gathered over time,” Jennifer continues. “When comfort and authenticity are prioritized over perfection, a home gains depth, warmth, and soul, becoming a true reflection of the people who inhabit it.”
