This Finnish Apartment’s Kitchen Color Combo Is an Eye-Popping Purple and Yellow
Mira Paloneva‘s two-bedroom apartment in Turku, Finland, does more than just house her, her husband, and their two kids. It also acts as colorful antidepressant — helping cheer everyone up with its vibrant hues.
“The home is in the center of Turku, sheltered by a lovely courtyard, next to an old synagogue,” Mira begins. “Home is our safe haven, because we have experienced a lot here, such as my husband’s brain cancer and my own postpartum depression. The colors have brought us strength in difficult times, and wherever I look here, a small smile tends to my lips.”
When she and her husband moved in the apartment, located in a building from 1928, 13 years ago, it had not been renovated for decades. While that meant it was in its original condition, it also meant things were very old.
Fast-forward to today, and the apartment is “bubbly, cheerful, and multilayered.” The colors actually weave a common thread throughout each room, particularly the way she’s paired colors, which Mira really loves. “The apartment has art and design, but still the apartment doesn’t take itself too seriously,” she admits.
