A “Bland, Cookie-Cutter” Rental Now “Radiates Sunshine,” Thanks to Cheery Color
Morgan Ford and her husband pay $2000 a month for this 750-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment in Boulder, Colorado. And before they moved in, the style was very cookie-cutter, “cold, bland, and a little outdated.”

“My home is a direct love note to who I am at my core,” Morgan begins. “My home radiates sunshine through its design and color choices. It’s inviting and cozy and a place to feel inspired.”
“My friends have all told me that I radiate sunshine, and I guess originally being from Arizona I needed to reflect ‘sunshine feelings’ in my home,” Morgan continues. “We lived in Germany for three years back in 2020 and that’s where I experienced gloom, gray skies, and seasonal depression for the first time. It also happened to be the same time I was diagnosed with MS.”
“My home became my safe space, and it was important for me to express myself and create a place that embodies everything I love (color, personal curation, sunshine, joy). Since then, I’ve felt a strong pull to colors and patterns — mainly my yellow, pink, and green trio. Since my diagnoses, I’ve treated most things as an opportunity rather than an obstacle, and our home is an example of that,” Morgan continues.
“The best type of decorating is intentional decorating. I know the feeling of wanting a completed space immediately; however, your home should evoke a deep and personal feeling for you,” Morgan advises. “It should be a reflection of who you are and what brings you joy and peace. Intentional decorating does take more time, but I believe it is more rewarding and long lasting.”
