A Colorful Eclectic Stockholm House Has the Cutest Retro Style Kitchen

By day, Cecilia works as the head of catalog management at Epidemic Sound, a music/tech company, but by night, she documents her home decorating journey on Instagram via her bright and cheerful account, @mylifeinmulticolour. She has amassed over 95,000 followers who enjoy her clever use of vibrant hues and cheeky accents in her house that was built in 1957. While Cecilia’s space has been featured on Apartment Therapy before, I thought it was time for round two, given all of the updates she’s made to her welcoming, eclectic space over the past two years.

My Style: My style derives from mid-century modern, but I’ve added more color and contemporary bits. I love to mix it up!

Inspiration: I love the aesthetics of Wes Anderson movies and draw a lot of inspiration from past interior movements such as maximalism and Memphis style. 

Favorite Element: My favorite element is the mid-century core, as the house itself was built in the mid-1950s. There are so many ways to go with that foundation!

Proudest DIY: I’m really happy with my murals, which were mostly done freehand, as I’m not one for patience, haha. 

Biggest Challenge: When buying the house, it was in a well-kept but dated state, with renovations being long overdue, both indoors and outdoors. We’ve had to have almost everything done, from wiring to roofing. It was a couple of frustrating years, but it’s paid off well. 

Biggest Indulgence: The kitchen was custom made by a carpenter in the north of Sweden, to fit the style of the house while being high-tech on the inside. It was more expensive than your average IKEA, but very worth it!

Is there something unique about your home or the way you use it? Not really, other than that I tend to use it as my creative canvas, which makes it stand out among most other Swedish homes. 

What are your favorite products you have bought for your home and why? I love things like artwork, pillowcases, and vases, with which you can change the looks of your home quickly. 

Does your home reflect your home country/city in any way? Not really, Scandinavian style is known to revolve more around different shades of beige. But, it feels like people are slowly getting into a bit more color over here, so that’s very promising!

What are your favorite places to shop for home décor that can only be found in your country? Lagerhaus and local thrift shops. 

Finally, what’s your absolute best home secret or decorating advice? Don’t be afraid of trying things out! Surround yourself with things that you love, regardless of other people’s opinions. .
