This Copenhagen Apartment Might Be the Most Colorful Home in the World
Furniture designer Jakob Mizrahi describes his three-bedroom home built in 1964 before he purchased it as “very basic, white walls, Nordic, with no colors.” But after 10 years, some paint, vinyl, and a furniture design career, Jakob’s home is nothing but extraordinarily vibrant.
“Even though I trained as a classical pianist and composer many years ago, I have always had a thing [for] designing stuff. So as another creative outlet than music I started building 1980s-inspired furniture in my shed around 2015. Even though I didn’t really know how to build anything, I continued and got better and better at both building and vinyl wrapping,” writes Jakob, who today makes his living as a furniture designer and maker.
“Today I’m self-employed doing exactly that, and I love it. As I mentioned I started out a decade ago being very influenced by the Memphis group and 1980s design in general because it was new and refreshing and a huge contrast to basically everything else at that time, where everything had to be Scandinavian mid-century wood furniture. Today I don’t think much about decades or styles. I literately just get an idea/composition in my head and then I build it in 3D,” Jakob continues.
Thanks, Jakob!
