Now that we’re in the “-ber” months, things have gotten colder and colder as the days go by. Hopefully, you have heating, but even that’s not perfect. Maybe some rooms get hotter than others, maybe you want to save money on utility bills, or maybe you just always run cold while your partner is more warm-blooded. How can you make sure everyone’s sufficiently snug without overheating? A nice, big electric heated blanket, like this one from Costco, can help everyone in the house get just as cozy as they want.

What Is the Berkshire Life Heated Throw?

Available at Costco, the Berkshire Life Heated Throw is a big electric blanket made from faux fur in a fluffy, braided design. The heating function is controlled by a small button on one corner of the blanket, which means you won’t ever have to get up and hunt for a remote after you’ve already gotten cozy (though you do have to plug it in). There are three colors (tan, gray, and cream) and four different heat options (low, medium, high, and warm). It also turns off by itself after four hours, so if you end up falling asleep, you won’t have to worry about overheating or it becoming a fire hazard.

I first came across this blanket in an Instagram reel by @costconewdeals. The in-store video shows the blanket retailing for $29.99, but it’s $34.99 online, so prices may vary slightly by location. However, with almost 3,500 five-star reviews, people do seem to consistently like it.

“I have purchased heated throws for years, and no one has ever been able to design one that works properly,” one reviewer writes on Costco’s site. “This one has it all,” including “an extra long cord that is removable for washing,” “very soft fabric,” and “wires that are not noticeable inside the double layers.” And yes, this blanket can go in the washer and the dryer, but note that you’re only supposed to tumble dry it on low for 10 minutes, then line-dry it from there.

An Alternative Heated Blanket to Shop if You Don’t Have a Costco Membership

While Costco is very popular, not everyone lives near one or wants to pay for a Costco membership. That’s OK; you can actually find the same exact Berkshire Life heated throw blanket at Walmart, either in-store or online. It only comes in two colors, not three (tan and gray, to be exact), and at $52.45, it’s almost $20 more than you’d pay at Costco, but if you think about how you didn’t pay a membership fee, it kind of evens out.
