There’s nothing like lounging in a hammock during the summer months — and the viral Rio Swinging Hammock Chair, which combines the comfort and support of a hammock with the structure and portability of a chair, is the best of both worlds. The relaxation game-changer has built a cult following over the years, with Redditors claiming they’ve “fallen asleep at a couple of kids’ soccer games” due to the cozy design. Now, Costco’s brought back the Rio Swinging Hammock Chair for another year — and it has a major design upgrade that cements it as the ultimate outdoor gem.

The RIO Swinging Hammock Chair Is Sold at Costco

On sale for $59.99 on Costco’s website (a steal compared with older models that are going for over $30 more at Amazon and Ace Hardware), the newest RIO Swinging Hammock Chair comes with an attached footrest that really plays up the hammock vibes.

With the ability to carry up to 350 pounds, the compact hammock chair is deceptively sturdy. The rust-resistant steel frame is covered with a water-resistant polyester material and has a hammock suspension design that makes it feel like you’re gently swaying in the breeze.

This year’s design also has a detachable (and adjustable) silicone-layered aluminum footrest that you can use to prop up your feet. Measuring 37 inches in width, 34 inches in length, and 40 inches in height, the RIO Swinging Hammock Chair quickly folds up into an included carrier bag whenever you need to move it around.

It’s a gem for outdoorsy types who like fitting in camping trips, picnics, and beach days during the warmer months, but it’s just as useful for people who want a comfortable seating solution for their summer backyard hangouts, music festivals, and sports matches. Plus, you can bring the tailgating essential into fall for football games, concerts, or even a bonfire night at home.

Happy Costco customers are piling on the praise online, with one revealing how it’s quickly become their “go-to spot for relaxation.” In addition to the “soft yet durable” fabric, the shopper said the chair was easy to set up and it effortlessly adds a “cozy, inviting vibe” to their backyard.

Another called it the “best money I have ever spent,” explaining, “Once you’re in this chair and swinging, all stress just melts away and it is difficult to get up and do anything, including fixing dinner.”

Several shoppers on Costco’s website and the Reddit thread also noted that the chair’s design was good for alleviating their back pain, thanks to the unique angle of the reclined hammock seat. One caveat: Several shoppers cautioned against leaving their chairs out in the elements for extended periods of time due to its impact on their longevity, so this is good to keep in mind if you purchase one.

Where to Buy the RIO Swinging Hammock Chair if You’re Not a Costco Member

Unfortunately, you can only buy this chair online if you’re a Costco member, but Walmart appears to be selling the same new model with a footrest on its website. On sale for $82.77, it’s quite a bit more expensive than Costco’s pricing, but it might be worth springing for if you’re shopping around for a do-it-all portable outdoor chair with all of the comfort and relaxation of a hammock.
