I write about house tours (but I love a good kitchen and kids' room article). My work can be found across AT Media, including The Kitchn and Cubby. I’ve been writing about home-related topics for nearly five years and love seeing how people make their homes unique.

Cozy living room with a light sofa, two armchairs, a wooden coffee table, and framed artwork on the wall.

Homes often have a through line in them — whether it’s a color woven into every room or a material that’s used throughout, there’s sometimes one element that ties the whole space together. One of my interior design friends once told me that, in her opinion, rooms should speak to one another with a similar detail, regardless of how subtle or striking it may be.

So, when flicking through photos of the home that Lauren Saab, founder and principal designer of Saab Studios, designed, I was keenly aware of one low-key accessory that was in every single room. When Lauren and her fiancé purchased the 1950s Dallas house, it lacked character. She even went so far as to describe it as “bare and dated.” However, shortly after buying the home, the couple renovated and decorated every inch of the space.

The result is a mid-century modern, storied, traditional home, but what stood out to me is how Lauren strung tassels around every curtain in every room in the house. It’s such a subtle, likely inexpensive detail that ties each room together, lets natural light in, and looks so elegant.

Curtain Tassels Are a Subtle yet Chic Detail in Every Room

While there are tassels on every curtain in the house, they’re not all the same. Some of them blend with the color of the curtain, while others are complementary colors that add a little pop. It’s true that tassels (and trimmings) have been trending for a while, but I’ve never seen the detail so thoroughly used in a home.

After seeing how such a small accessory could make such a statement, I knew I had to share this idea with others (and also pocket it for my next home update). While you can always DIY your own curtain tassel, there are several shoppable options, too.

For instance, Amazon offers a two-pack of curtain tassels for less than $10. There are 10 colors available — ranging from gold to red — and you can even upgrade to a pack of four or six if you want to follow Lauren’s lead and include them throughout your home.

If you’re looking for a different shape and length, Wayfair also has curtain tassels for sale. While they come at a higher price point (just under $13 for a pack of two), they’re made with silk and polyester. The brand also shares that you can hang them from doors, on the wall, and even as an accessory on a bag.

Looking for two tassels in one for that added flair? Look no further than this option from Amazon. Not only is a two-pack of these tassels less than $10, but they have an almost five-star rating on the site. The two tassels at the front add a touch of extra drama.

Grab your own tassels today and see how when guests wander from room to room, they appreciate the gorgeous continuity. The repeated curtain tassels are just one of many beautiful details in Lauren’s home. To see more, visit the full House Tour.
