If your bathroom towel hooks are currently being fully monopolized by swimsuits, this cute, DIY piece might be the perfect solution to your bikini overflow — while also adding a touch of coastal decor to your space for the summer.

In this TikTok video, user Nina Angelina @ninaanngelina gives viewers a step-by-step tutorial on how to craft a custom bikini rack made out of materials sourced straight from the beach.

To get started, you’ll need to collect or source a piece of driftwood that’s about a foot long, alongside a handful of seashells (using a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors is encouraged), a piece of rope, and at least six nails. “I couldn’t find driftwood, so I just bought one from Michaels,” Nina says. A note on collecting shells: Some beaches prohibit shelling, and others put a limit on how many you can bring home (be sure to check your location’s rules online before you go). You’ll also want to make sure you’re not grabbing any shells with live creatures inside.

Next, tie each end of the rope around both ends of the driftwood. Nina specifically uses a bowline knot, but if you’re not sure how to pull that off, feel free to wing it, because the creator also recommends hot gluing the rope to the wood for an extra layer of security. After, just cut off the excess rope. Nina then hammers in six nails, evenly spaced, across the wood and glues a seashell on top of each nailhead. After letting your project dry for a bit, it will be ready to hang up in your room.

“I feel like it’s such a good way to showcase your favorite bikini of the moment, and the whole process of this — collecting the shells, putting it together — was so fun, and I love how it turned out,” Nina says.

If you want to snag one of these for your room, without having to create it yourself, there are several cute options on Etsy that will bring the ocean vibes right to your home.
