Do you ever come across a DIY project that makes you think, Now, why didn’t I think of that? Warning: This is going to be precisely that, times 100. This DIY lamp project is so easy that you’ll be kicking yourself for not figuring it out sooner. All you need is a cordless, rechargeable lamp, a ceramic vase, and about one second of spare time to create a gorgeous lamp that looks like it would cost hundreds from a name-brand home decor store.

Create a DIY Lamp with Just 2 Items

In a recent video, content creator Kelly Millis (@millhouseproject) removed a cord from an existing lamp, replaced the bulb with a rechargeable one, and placed the lamp inside a wide-mouthed vase.

“Ta-da! Do you love it?” Millis wrote in the caption. “I couldn’t find a lamp I loved. So I made my own. Using my gorgeous stone vase, an old lamp base, battery bulb and there you have it. One bespoke lamp. What do you think?” People were quick to compliment the content creator.

“Absolutely genius,” one person commented on Kelly’s post, with another commenter adding, “The fit is literally perfect.” And someone else added, “Okay this is the best idea I have seen in a while!”

You can make this project even easier by purchasing a battery-powered lamp, such as this option from Amazon, instead of cutting the cord. Pro tip: You’ll want something on the taller side, so you have room to place it in the vase.

Speaking of vases, find one with a wide enough mouth to fit the base of the lamp you choose. The Medium Tabletop Glazed Ceramic Planter from West Elm would be a perfect fit for the above lamp, as its mouth is over 7 inches wide, and the lamp base is approximately 6 inches wide.

You can play around with vases you may already have in your stash, or find a lamp base at the thrift store that just needs a battery-powered bulb to put your own spin on the project. No matter how you tweak the project to fit your needs, this might be the easiest way to get a bespoke ceramic lamp ever.
