Drew Barrymore’s New York apartment isn’t anything like other celebrity homes. It’s not oversized, and it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles — especially in the kitchen, where the 50-year-old talk show host doesn’t even have a complete set of stainless steel appliances. And yet, that’s exactly why so many people are going crazy over it.

Barrymore caused a bit of a frenzy on Instagram this week when she dropped a casual cooking tutorial over on Instagram. Her kitchen could be described as normal and definitely feels so relatable, which checks out, given what we know about the actor-turned-daytime-television queen’s housekeeping tactics.  Believe it or not, this is not the first time that the Internet has lost it over Barrymore’s home.

Drew Barrymore’s Homey Kitchen Is Practically Viral

Barrymore took to social media to share a favorite brunch recipe using a few of her own pieces from her own Walmart line, Beautiful by Drew.  The great thing about this video is that it’s going viral for the same reason her kitchen went viral over a year ago. Just like most everyone else’s kitchens, nothing has really changed since Barrymore’s first kitchen debut. She has the same “outdated” white stove, the same vintage furniture pieces, and even the same kitchen counter clutter.

The space feels so inspirational for those who may be slowly upgrading appliances — or chipping away at DIY projects over time. Imperfection and mismatched pieces can be chic because they feel authentic.

“Can I get an amen for normalizing mismatched appliances and a ’90s white gas stove? This is so refreshing,” one fan commented on Barrymore’s post. Another added: “Normal home, normal food, shirt inside out — this is why we love Drew.”

Drew updated her kitchen within the past five years, giving the space a fresh coat of paint, rearranging some of the appliances, and giving herself a bit more useful storage. Like others who may be renovating on a budget, Barrymore didn’t give the space a complete overhaul, but rather focused her attention on must-haves like removing the upper cabinets, replacing the stove (humbly!), and treating herself to a new fridge. Barrymore’s A-List apartment is truly proof that a white stove and stainless steel fridge can exist in the same space.

Because her kitchen has bits and pieces of Barrymore’s personality in every inch we’ve seen, it feels homey and lived-in in the best way. There’s nothing too curated or too forced, and it looks like a place you want to sit down in to enjoy a bowl of pasta with a friend.

In a world that feels flooded with bright white marble countertops, expensive stainless steel appliances, and kitchen gadgets fit for celebrities, Barrymore’s kitchen is a breath of fresh, realistic air.
