I Use This Compact Steam Cleaner on Every Surface, and Now I’m Running Out of Things to Clean

When my husband and I moved into our new house back in 2020, one of my favorite things about our kitchen was the natural stone tile. I don’t know the exact kind of stone, but it’s unique and has a lot of texture and color variations that we like. But one of the downsides we’ve come to realize is that the uneven texture can trap everyday dirt, grime, and stains. After almost five years, our stone floors definitely looked rough. 

In an effort to keep our kitchen floor looking like they did the day we moved in, I’ve used almost every type of mopping product. From traditional mops to pad mops and even upright robot mops — you name it, I’ve used it. They all got our floors clean, but none were able to really pick up the grime that got embedded into the nooks and crannies of the stone. And don’t even get me started on the grout — it looks like someone ran a Sharpie over it.

When I finally got sick of looking at our dirty, dingy floors last year I started researching steam cleaners as a last-ditch effort before calling the pros and came across the Dupray Neat Plus Steam Cleaner. I got it and saw results instantly. It removed years of caked-on stains and grime from my stone floors, and after using it on almost every surface in my house, I’m running out of things to clean. 

The Dupray Neat Plus Steam Cleaner is a compact, versatile steam cleaner. The Neat Plus is a new version of the popular Dupray Neat, but with a quicker 90-second start-up time and the ability to refill the water tank without turning off the machine. 

Because the Dupray Neat Plus Steam Cleaner uses steam to clean, there’s no need to use any extra cleaning agents. Water is heated to 275 degrees Fahrenheit, so it gets hot with a capital H. Be sure to read the site’s FAQs as well as the instructions that come with the cleaner before using it to keep yourself safe. 

The base of the steam cleaner has one Power button and houses the 54-ounce water tank. The 16-foot cord can be coiled on the underside of the base. The Dupray Neat Plus is a little smaller than the standard cube organizers you probably have at home (or at least seen), so it’s relatively small and can be stored easily. The six-foot-long hose, though, is tricky to store because, well, it’s a hose. But I just coil it up and secure it with a Velcro strap so it doesn’t become a tripping hazard in the closet. 

In terms of weight, it’s about 11 pounds without any water. There’s a short carrying handle at the top and smooth wheels on the underside for maneuverability. The steam cleaner also comes with 17 accessories to help you clean floors, windows, grout, upholstery, and more. 

I’ve used the Neat Plus on almost every hard surface in my house, as well as almost all our upholstered furniture, and it’s done a fantastic job each time. At first I was only intending to use the steam cleaner on my kitchen floor to see if I could finally get rid of the embedded grime, but I’ve since used it on multiple mattresses, pillows, and couches.  

To use it on my kitchen floors, I snapped on the two extension tubes and a nylon brush meant for detail work, and started cleaning a particularly gross patch by the fridge flanked by equally gross grout. Almost immediately, I could see a difference. Most of the grime disappeared after a few passes with the brush, while more stubborn spots required a few extra seconds of cleaning. I went to work on the surrounding grout, which went from looking like someone had run a Sharpie over it to almost-new grout.

I was thoroughly impressed, so I rolled the Neat Plus to another high-traffic spot between the oven and sink that is prone to food spills and stains. I used the same brush to go over the stains, as well as the embedded grime and dingy grout. The stains disappeared almost instantly, the color of the grout was about 50 shades lighter, and you could literally see beads of dirty water being pushed along the floor. It was extremely satisfying to see — gross, but satisfying.

All that was left behind was the dirty water that I picked up with the floor tool, and microfiber cloth and pads. I made sure to use the white microfiber cloth so I could see exactly how gross my floors were. 

The steam cleaner is also great on upholstery. After we had our whole house repainted last year, we wanted to sanitize the mattresses and pillows in our primary and guest bedrooms, as well as the couch in our living room. I used the extension tubes again, this time with the triangle tool and microfiber bonnet to steam clean the soft surfaces. Unless there are visible stains, you can’t physically see the mattress or couch being cleaned, so you’ll have to trust that the high 275 degree Fahrenheit temperature is working its magic.

I’ve also used the Neat Plus with the window cleaning tool on a few windows and a foggy glass shower door, and was impressed with the fast and streak-free clean. I suggest triple-checking with the manufacturers to make sure that the glass can withstand the high heat. Or just not use it on glass because it might not even be necessary — unless you’re steam cleaning your whole house, there’s no need to bring out the cleaner just for relatively small areas like windows and shower doors. 

The Dupray Neat Plus Steam Cleaner is relatively easy to use, but it can be scary at first because the steam is piping hot. Be sure to reference the instructions before using and never let the steam get close to your skin. If you don’t let the steam cleaner heat up for the full 90 seconds or so, you risk spraying out water and not steam — which I did a few times. When this happens, just let the cleaner fully heat up. You should also expect some moisture when cleaning hard and soft surfaces, so again, keep the steamer away from your body when using it. 

If you’re in the market and have the budget for a versatile, powerful steam cleaner, then yes, the Dupray Neat Plus Steam Cleaner is worth the investment. It got rid of five years’ worth of stains and grime on my kitchen floor almost immediately, made my windows and glass shower doors fully transparent again, and refreshed a ton of upholstery around my house.

Currently on sale for about $200, the steam cleaner’s price is comparable to a decent mid-tier vacuum, but it offers much more versatility and cleaning power. Plus, it doesn’t require the use of additional cleaning products, which could give you peace of mind and extra long-term savings, too.
