This $15 Organizer Finally Got My Paper Clutter Under Control (It’s Perfect for Small Spaces!)
In the very recent past, it was not uncommon to walk into my apartment and see several piles of mail all throughout my dining room. My husband and I would bring our sorted mail up from downstairs, (we don’t live in a ground-floor unit), drop it on the nearest convenient surface (usually our dining room table), and then move on. Sometimes we wouldn’t open mail for weeks, and other times we’d write letters and let them languish in one of our many piles. Usually, it would all get resolved in a big paper declutter, where I’d sort, organize, and throw out all the junk mail that we should’ve put in the garbage as soon as we got it.
But those days are over. I’ve written before about my issue with mail, and generally, paper clutter, so when I had the chance to test-drive the Everything Organizer 3-Section Tiered Letter Sorter from The Container Store for our 2024 Organization Awards, I basically jumped at the opportunity.
The product is affordable and ideal for small spaces.
The product is cheap — only $15 — which makes it an ideal storage solution for people who like to adhere to a budget. (I’m not sure I like to adhere to a budget, but I do anyway!) It’s also not too big. It’s only 6 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 8 inches tall at its tallest/largest organizing tier.
The multiple tiers create intuitive storage.
What I liked most about the organizer during my test-drive were the multiple tiers. Rather than being one big container, the letter sorter’s three separate storage spaces helped me intuitively organize my mail — we put my mail in one tier, mail addressed to my spouse in another, and then big magazines in the final, largest tier.
The size of the product helps me declutter more regularly.
And while it’s certainly roomy, the limited space of the letter organizer also forces me to get a handle on whatever I’ve been piling in there faster. No more leaving mail on the dining room table, and then shuffling it from surface to surface for weeks. Instead, when more mail comes in, old mail must go out. It’s like a self-limiting factor placed on me by an object. And I’m not complaining!
The product material is lightweight and easy to clean.
Finally, my last favorite thing about the mail organizer is actually that it’s made of clear plastic. It’s lightweight and easy to keep clean. I don’t need to worry about it scratching up any softwood surfaces, and perhaps most importantly, I can see right through it. It makes it way easier to find a specific piece of paper/mail — making digging through piles of mail a thing of the past.
