This “Fairy-Tale Cottage” Has Stunning Stone Floors and a Tombstone Under the Bed
This house in Cave Creek, Arizona, was once owned by a stone mason who added tons of character, like stone floors, built-ins, and a fireplace, into its 1200 square feet.

“My husband and I were so charmed by the stone — it made the house feel like a little fairytale cottage,” begins elementary music teacher, musician, and content creator Allie Nasr, who purchased this home in 2016.
“My husband and I were about to get married and we still weren’t sure where we were going to live. I was out driving looking at neighborhoods (one of my favorite pastimes) with my mom one very, very hot weekend in July. We just so happened to see a tiny ‘for sale by owner’ sign out in front of this sweet little house … something just clicked,” Allie writes.
“I knew it was meant for us. The rest is history! My husband and I called the owner and were given a tour the next day. The offer we put in wasn’t the highest, but the owner chose us! He had a soft spot for us, as we were very young and just starting out on our journey.”
Although the person who sold them the house was a flipper, Allie says the home’s charm was still obvious, and it just “needed a little TLC to bring its character back.” Their biggest renovation was in the kitchen, where they not only brought back charm, but they also brought in nostalgia: the cabinets, countertops, knobs, and sink are from Allie’s childhood kitchen.
“I coveted the kitchen in the house I grew up in, and when my parents remodeled, they offered all their old materials to us,” Allie writes. “The most magical part was that, somehow, everything in my parent’s old space fit perfectly into our house. It was meant to be! I added my own personal touch with the green paint: ‘Jojoba’ by Behr!”
“It’s pretty special to think about — this kitchen watched me grow up, and now it’s a part of my adult journey,” Allie continues. “I’ve poured so much of myself into this little haven. I’ll probably haunt this place one day. Haha!”
