Are outlets in your backsplash, bathroom, or gallery wall cramping your style because they’re ugly, discolored, or outdated? You can disguise them with new stylish switch plate covers, but sometimes those don’t do the trick — especially if you have a gallery wall, it can quickly become an eyesore. When you need those outlets out of sight, there’s a DIY hack that is imperative. It not only makes your outlet disappear, but it adds to your aesthetic rather than detracting from it.

The Instagram creator behind the NLS Diving Living account shared a genius way to hide outlets using a piece of framed wall art and plastic outlet safety plugs — the same ones you use when childproofing a home!

“Hide that ugly wall outlet in style!” the creator wrote in the caption of the video. “This handmade outlet cover is made using an upcycled vintage frame with an enchanting still life floral and fruit scene … Designed with functionality and safety in mind, this outlet cover has two plastic non-conductive outlet prongs on the back.”

A Common Childproofing Find Is Perfect for Accessorizing

You can use any piece of framed art you have on hand, provided it has a flat, solid back, isn’t too heavy, and fits within the space of your outlet. Just glue two of the plastic safety plugs to the back of the artwork, and you’re ready to hang. If your artwork is lightweight enough, you may only need to glue one plug onto the back, making this hack even easier.

Another bonus? You can find safety outlet plugs almost anywhere. Amazon has a 12-pack for just over $4.

People were so impressed with this idea and didn’t resist leaving their feedback on the Instagram post. “This is crazy genius,” one person commented. Other people admitted to being speechless and saying that the creator deserved a prize for this clever solution.

Perfect for backsplashes and ideal for floor-to-ceiling gallery walls, this outlet disguise may be one of the best hacks of all time. Try it out for yourself and watch that ugly outlet disappear before your eyes.
