I Give Every Guest This $5 Cozy Gem, But It’s Secretly a Gift for Me (Here’s Why)

Part of my job, as I host friends for dinner parties and “favorite things” gift exchanges, is to make guests feel welcome in my home. That doesn’t mean I have to break my house rules, though, including my “no-shoes policy.” If you’re a no-shoes household — or if you just cleaned your floors and don’t want to clean them after guests traipse in snow and road salt — I know firsthand that asking guests to take their shoes off can be awkward.

But still, the etiquette is clear — guests should always follow the rules for any house they go to, including if it’s a shoes-off household. But not everyone is prepared for that. Since guests may have health-related reasons for keeping their shoes on, it’s best to give everyone a heads-up about your no-shoes rule beforehand. That way, they can plan accordingly. Other guests might forget and show up in socks that aren’t matching or presentable to their peers or not wear socks at all. 

To keep everyone happy, you can don a pair of these cozy socks yourself and invite guests to do the same as they arrive. For cat-lovers, there are two options: one with a smooth backing and another that is anti-slip for better traction.
