I’m risk-averse. Quite a homebody. Somebody who likes a routine and finds comfort in being surrounded by her collections of things day in and day out. I’m exactly the type of person who you’d never expect to turn it all in for life on the road in an Airstream trailer. And yet, that’s all I can think about sometimes.

Every once in a while a house tour pops up on Apartment Therapy from, for instance, a couple who sold their Charlotte condo and gave up a career in banking to tour the country’s best golf courses in a camper, and their stories give me life. I imagine what it’s like to live their lives; where every place is home and you have all you need in just a few cabinets and cleverly-hidden dining banquette storage. And it kind of thrills me.

Will I sell all I own and start scouring Craigslist for RVs tomorrow? No. But maybe one day. Until then, I’ll continue to live vicariously through the homes of people who’ve made the leap to living the nomad life (even when they stay planted in the same spot).
