This 2-Step DIY Uses IKEA Dog Bowls and Glue (But Looks So Chic)
Produce bowls are the unsung heroes of kitchens. They’re not only a way to display gorgeous fruits and vegetables, but they’re good storage and can be used for items beyond just food. The one downfall, though, is that they can sometimes be pricey (Reese Witherspoon’s produce bowl, for example, is over $200!).
So, if you’re in the market for a decorative bowl that makes a statement without breaking the bank, a DIY creator has a great idea for you.
“Who would have thought that two dog bowls could be a design statement?” Yasmin from Interior Overdose on Instagram wrote in a recent video caption. “The large and small UTSÅDD bowls are instantly transformed into a stylish DIY bowl. Simply glue them together — and the statement piece is complete!”
Yasmin continued, “Whether as a fruit bowl, candle stand, or flower decoration — versatile, with cool stripes, it’s guaranteed to be an eye-catcher.”
What Are the IKEA USTÅDD Pet Bowls?
The USTÅDD bowls are stoneware pet bowls, and each is decorated with cream and blue or green stripes. There are three sizes available, and they have a modern look that is much more interesting than your standard stainless steel pet bowls — so contemporary, in fact, that you can use them for so much more than just kibble!
To create this trendy yet timeless pedestal bowl, select two IKEA UTSÅDD pet bowls — one in the 4.5-inch size and the other in the 7.5-inch size. You’ll also want to grab some heavy-duty glue, such as E6000 or super glue.
Add a ring of glue around the bottom of the smaller bowl and attach it to the bottom of the bigger bowl, and that’s it!
Of course, you don’t have to use the IKEA bowls to make a similar pedestal bowl. You can use pet bowls you find at the thrift store or buy a set on Amazon, like this set from Kate Spade, to imitate the project. These bowls come in a variety of colors (including two striped color palettes) and two sizes (large and small).
The bowl you use as the pedestal for this DIY doesn’t have to be smaller than the top bowl, but it gives the overall piece a bit more interest and shape if it is!
With a bit of glue and a couple of bowls, you can create a trendy bowl for your fruit, keys, mail, or purse goodies in just a few seconds. The hardest part will be waiting for the glue to dry before using it.
