IKEA’s Newest Storage Find Transforms Any Cramped Entryway for Just $30

Living in New York City for 13 years now, I’ve become very familiar with small, unconventional, and often cramped spaces. When getting a bigger space isn’t an option, you’ve got to get creative and make the most of what’s already there, especially when it comes to entryway storage. Optimizing your home’s entryway can really help cut down on clutter, and this playful, colorful, new IKEA shelf will help you do just that for only $30.

The FÄRGSÄTTARE Wall Shelf is a new storage offering from IKEA designed to be mounted on your wall. It features three equally sized shelves and wire sides that resemble ladders with rounded tops and bottoms, which adds a nice visual element and also provides you with plenty of room to hang or attach items like a carabiner of keys, that scarf you’re always forgetting, or over-the-ear headphones.

It measures about 29 inches tall, 23 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, and retails for $29.99. As you can see in this video by Utopic Interior, it does require some simple assembly, and you’ll need a drill to secure it to the wall, making it slightly less renter friendly. Once it’s up, the possibilities are endless. 

There’s a lot of furniture out there designed with function in mind, which is great, but not all of it is particularly nice to look at. That’s why I appreciate the bold, green color of this shelf. It doesn’t come in white or black by default with the option to choose another color if you want; it’s just a proud, vivid shade of green. 

Sure, green might not work in every room of your house, but this shelf is so practical it can essentially go anywhere. The person behind Utopic Interior uses it to “show off [their] prettiest dishes,” but it would also be a great addition to your entryway. Use it to store essentials like keys or umbrellas, or stash your mail and the book you’ve been reading on your commute. Or give your guests immediate good vibes by decorating the shelf with small plants, cute mugs, and little framed photos or art prints.

According to the product description, this shelf is designed to have “a gap between the shelf and the wall,” which makes it easier to charge electronic devices. If you choose to decorate with a lamp or LED neon sign, it’ll be easier to hide the cables as well.
