There’s no denying it — having a spare bedroom is a luxury. Not only is it a place to host guests, but it’s also extra square footage to play with. The room can transform into anything, and that freedom can be a blessing and a curse. The multifunctionality can lead to a cluttered space — especially if the room is cramped. However, the IKEA HEMNES daybed, an item that’s been getting a lot of praise on social media, helps to reconcile that.

What Is the IKEA HEMNES Daybed?

The IKEA HEMNES daybed is a multifunctional piece that serves as a bed, a couch, and a storage unit. It provides easily accessible extra sleeping and/or floor space for whatever need you may have.

The furniture piece comes in three colors — white, black, and gray — and is about the size of a twin bed when in couch form, which makes it the perfect little sofa for reading, lounging, napping, and watching movies. But when you need to host guests, simply pull out the front section of the daybed to transform the couch into a king-size bed. IKEA sells mattresses to fit the HEMNES that can be stacked on top of each other when the bed is tucked away.

The daybed also comes with three spacious drawers that are great for storing extra bedding or any other knickknacks you keep in your guest room.

What IKEA Shoppers Are Saying

The bed is priced at $400, but it’s worth the investment for the numerous opportunities it presents. Just take it from an IKEA shopper’s review on the site. “This bed serves several purposes in our home. It is a guest bed, a TV room lounger, and a couch all rolled in to one. We love it! Plan to buy lots of giant pillows if using as a couch.”

Content creators rave about the bed, too. Recently the creator behind Little Manny Terrace shared an honest video review of the bed (spoiler: It was positive), and the comments were glowing.

“Love this! Currently house sitting for a friend and sleeping on one of these and can vouch for it being comfy,” one person commented on the post. Another person wrote, “I have this bed and it’s amazing! I love the storage underneath too.”

If your IKEA is sold out of the bed, don’t worry: Wayfair has a similar pull-out bed priced at just $400. This version features a trundle-style pull-out that turns one twin bed into two. And under the trundle section, there are three storage drawers that give you plenty of space to hide away clutter. This option is great for those of you who like the idea of having a standard bed rather than a daybed-style couch in your space.

So if your spare bedroom is more of a multipurpose space rather than a guest room, IKEA’s HEMNES daybed could be game-changing. It gives you more floor space, storage, and seating without you having to host your guests on an air mattress on the living room floor!
