This IKEA Living Room Staple Has a Hidden Double Feature (It’s Perfect for Small Spaces!)

No guest bedroom … or even floor space to fit an air mattress, for that matter? No problem. IKEA has the perfect small-space-friendly seating staple that doubles as a (secret!) bed. 

You may already know and love the brand’s budget-friendly sleeper sofas, but allow me to introduce you to the next best thing: a sofa chair. As a continuation of its popular KIVIK line, IKEA now sells a compact chair that converts into a single bed, so you can add extra seating and an unassuming sleepover spot to any empty living room, bedroom, or home office corner.

The KIVIK one-seat sleeper sofa features a built-in bed frame that pulls out from the base of the chair. The cushions then form the mattress — aka no need to pile them elsewhere when you’re transitioning from chair to bed — but trust me, it’s more cozy than it sounds. The seat portion actually unzips and unfolds to reveal a padded inner lining, so visitors aren’t sleeping directly on top of cushioned upholstery.

Fully extended, the bed measures 87.75 inches long by 35 ⅜ inches wide — sizable, yet doesn’t dominate a ton of floor space. One reviewer noted that “when opened up to a bed it was surprisingly large and comfortable,” but a few others mentioned adding an extra foam topper or additional mattress for a better sleep experience.
