IKEA Is Quietly Discontinuing This Ingenious $21 Kitchen Organizer

A home kitchen and a restaurant kitchen serve very different purposes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get inspired by the pros. There’s tons of advice home cooks can easily follow or tricks they can steal — like installing the best type of material for your countertops, learning the most efficient way to organize your fridge, or adding a super-functional kitchen component, like this handy rod with hooks from IKEA. This simple-yet-ingenious addition can make a big difference in both the look and function of your kitchen. You may even find yourself murmuring “yes, chef.”

The KUNGFORS is a stainless steel rod that you mount to a wall in your kitchen. It almost looks like a curtain rod or a place you’d hang hand towels on (which you can indeed do here), but the sleek stainless steel, multiple metal hooks, and a hanging cup-like container transforms this simple rod into a culinary workhorse. Use it to contain pots, utensils, measuring cups, sauce packets, citrus peelers, oven mitts, sponges, or whatever else you see fit. The whole setup retails for $22.99, but it’s $2 off until August 2026 — and it’s being discontinued.

Like many other items from IKEA, this rail requires some assembly; it must be mounted to the wall, and you must supply the screws and/or fittings to do so. The rod itself measures 15 3/4 inches long and just an inch tall, but the cup add-on (and everything you’ll be hanging on the hooks) extends down at least 10 inches, so make sure you have additional wall room to accommodate that — especially if you want to mount it in between your cabinets and countertop or above the kitchen sink.

Reviewers on IKEA’s site generally seem to enjoy the simple practicality of the KUNGFORS rail. “I bought it before and since I was very satisfied, I bought it again for another kitchen,” one person writes. “High-quality and elegant product, easy to assemble and looks very nice.”

Essentially, the KUNGFORS rail is just a place you can hang items from in multiple types of ways, which is a great thing to have in a kitchen. Once you notice how many culinary tools have little holes in them, you’ll start wondering why you don’t hang everything up from little hooks. Personally, I have metal hooks hanging all over; some on an above-sink dish rack, others across the shelves where I store my dry goods. It also doesn’t just fit in a home kitchen — one reviewer says it “looks great in [their] RV.”
