These days, I’m obsessed with finding little ways to inject some cheer into my safe space — otherwise known as my Brooklyn apartment. Sometimes that means thrifting knickknacks or even just lighting a candle in my living room after dinner. Other times, it means opening up all the windows on a warm spring day or browsing the internet to shop for finds that could reimagine my somewhat-maximalist living space and make it the world’s happiest place.

To me, rugs are the perfect low-lift decor piece that can immediately infuse joy and transform a room. And there’s no rug that has been more on my mind from my online window shopping sessions than IKEA’s NICKGRÄS rug.

The cheery rug, which comes in two sizes — 5’7” x 7’10” or 6’7” x 9’10” for $399 or $599, respectively — has been on my wish list for quite some time. It’s a gorgeous rug with a cream-colored background, and the design and colors are inspired by Swedish folklore. The flatwoven, wool rug has a gorgeous brick red border and designs of flowers, chickens, and greenery in blues, yellows, greens, and reds. It’s beyond cute and cheery, while also being stylish and muted enough to feel like it could belong in any space. It’s like if a Scandi rug and a maximalist rug met and had a baby.

I could imagine it anchoring any room in my apartment. It could replace either of my hard-to-clean wool rugs in the living or dining room (both of which require me to use a vacuum extender to clean it). And now that it’s officially marked as “last chance to buy” — the IKEA sign that they’re going to discontinue something soon — it may finally be time to take the plunge.

But my favorite part about it is that it just screams spring. The cream-colored white with the clay-toned reds and other muted colors just make me feel happy. And these days, I could take any indoor cheer I can get!
