IKEA has a way of making furniture that continuously shocks and amazes me. The Swedish brand’s SÅGMÄSTARE cabinet is such a good example of this. At first glance, it looks like a vintage-inspired wood shelf painted with a blue-gray color. Upon closer inspection, you’ll realize that it’s actually made of metal. If you’re looking for a functional and chic piece to freshen up your home, keep reading!

What Is IKEA’s SÅGMÄSTARE Cabinet?

The SÅGMÄSTARE from IKEA is a tall, pale-blue cabinet with foldaway doors and two levels of shelving. It has a shabby-chic, antique vibe with its fluted doors and spindle legs, and the powdery blue color would fit perfectly in a coastal-inspired space.

Use the hidden shelving to store plates, bowls, and glassware — and the top two shelves as a coffee bar, a dried goods storage area, or even an extra prep surface. The possibilities are endless with this new piece, and because it’s made of metal, it’s ready for any of the paces you’re looking to put it through.

“This was relatively easy to put together, and it looks elegant in person,” one IKEA shopper wrote about the SÅGMÄSTARE. “The design details are charming. The cabinet is supercheap because the material is kind of a lightweight metal, but it looks great!”

Another shopper added, “Great to keep appliances [in the] kitchen and also some decor items. It looks really good in my kitchen.”

Of course, you don’t have to use the SÅGMÄSTARE in your kitchen. It’s such a versatile piece that it would work well in your dining room as a sideboard alternative, in your living room to store electronics or books, or in your entryway for mudroom storage, as another IKEA shopper wrote.

“It’s a beautiful, unique, and original piece of furniture,” the shopper said. “The color is stunning, and the quality is much better than expected. We used it in the entryway, and it adds a lovely touch. We’re thrilled.”

However you decide to use the new SÅGMÄSTARE cabinet in your space, you’ll find so much use for its hidden storage and open shelves. Plus, because of its antique look, people might ask you if it’s a family heirloom.
