I have a hard time organizing documents. Between junk mail, statements, manuals, and necessary files that I can’t fully digitize, piles of paper seemed to grow faster than I could go through. Because I’m scared of throwing away important documents (or worse, throwing away papers with personal information on them), everything would end up stacked on an empty shelf at the bottom of my linen cabinet.

Every time I thought about going through and sorting it all, I would get completely overwhelmed and keep putting it off — until the day I needed an important file and finding it was an unbearable feat. So, when I got the chance to try the Levenger LevTex Portable File Tote, it brought the relief I was looking for.

What Is the Levenger LevTex Portable File Tote?

The Levenger LevTex Portable File Tote is a structured, letter-size file organizer designed to hold hanging file folders upright. It’s made from Levenger’s LevTex leather alternative and includes a removable metal frame with notched ends to keep files in place. The tote also has an interior slip pocket with a Velcro closure for smaller items and an exterior pocket with a magnetic closure that can hold a phone or notebook.

It comes in two colors, French blue and black (which I went with), and measures 13 1/4 inches wide, 6 3/8 inches deep, and 9 5/8 inches high. Hanging file folders, which come in the same colorways, are sold separately in a set of six.

Why I Love This File Tote

I was drawn to this file tote because it didn’t look like a traditional filing system. The faux leather feels chic, the design is subtle, and it doesn’t read as “office storage” at all. It looks nice enough to leave out, and I could even see myself carrying it around like a regular bag when I need to move papers from one place to another.

The first thing I did was grab hanging file folders and created simple categories — things like “Important Documents,” “To Shred,” and “Incoming Mail.” The tote made setting up the system surprisingly intuitive. Instead of everything being stacked together, each paper now had a clear home.

What really changed things was how approachable the system feels. Because the tote is open and portable, I can quickly drop mail where it belongs instead of letting it pile up. When it’s time to shred or file something away permanently, I know exactly where to look. Nothing is jumbled or buried, and I no longer dread dealing with paper at all, which might be the biggest win of all.
