This Luxurious Silk Duvet Cover Makes Me Feel Like Blair Waldorf (I Never Overheat!)

I own a lot of different types of bed coverings, from quilts to faux fur throws to lightweight coverlets. But if I could sleep with a comforter all year, I would. I actually own a comforter that’s intended for year-round use, but I find that the duvet cover I put it in plays a huge role in determining whether that remains true. For about a year, I was using a linen blend duvet cover meant for warmer months. The material itself stayed cool to the touch all night, but it had a heavy drape that made me feel somewhat weighed down.

Then, LilySilk reached out to me. I had seen the brand’s silk clothing and sleepwear promoted by some of my favorite YouTubers and had been curious about whether the quality of the material was actually good. When I realized the brand carried bedding, I requested its 19 momme seamless silk duvet cover. I’ve had it on my bed for two months straight; here’s what I think about it.

Lilysilk has a few different silk duvet covers. I chose the 19 momme version because it was the least expensive, and I was interested to see how the “bottom tier” cover would feel. If you don’t know what “momme” refers to, I was the same way. It’s the unit of measurement for silk and is also thought of as the density of silk. So, the higher the momme weight, the heavier and more durable the silk is.

When you look at the duvet covers available on the brand’s website, you’ll see a 19 momme, 22 momme, and 25 momme version. Because I got the lightest weight, my duvet cover is naturally on the thinner side. It feels almost tissue paper-y, and it’s even slightly translucent. For example, I can see the dark blue tag on my comforter through the baby-pink silk. I like the lightweight quality because it doesn’t make my comforter feel heavy and it keeps me cool, but if you want something thicker and more durable, I suggest the 22 or 25 momme duvet cover, instead.

Another notable feature of the duvet cover is its zip closure. Once the duvet is over your comforter, the closure isn’t visible, and the zipper itself is small and delicate. As for care, LilySilk recommends hand-washing the duvet cover in cold water. I’ve machine-washed mine on a cold, gentle cycle four times now, and I always air-dry it. I find that the quality has not diminished so far, and the duvet always dries within three hours, give or take.

Choosing the pink color for my duvet cover was a no-brainer because it instantly reminded me of the one in Blair Waldorf’s bedroom on Gossip Girl. I remember thinking how luxurious and fluffy her bed looked on the show, so I was excited to try and achieve a similar aesthetic. I washed and dried the duvet after unboxing, and I’ve found that it wrinkles pretty easily. I personally don’t care, but it’s something to keep in mind if wrinkly bedding bothers you. I’ve thought about steaming the duvet, but I’ve been hesitant to do so considering its thin material (I’d recommend spraying it with a wrinkle-release spray instead).

As soon as I put the duvet on my comforter, I fell in love with how plush and cloudlike it made the covering feel. It was almost like a whole new comforter! But before I get ahead of myself, I must say that the comforter insertion process was so much easier compared with previous times using my linen duvet. With a button-closure duvet, it would take me a while to get all of the buttons and holes lined up correctly. And because the linen blend material was heavy, trying to smooth out the comforter inside of it and then smooth out the duvet on top always had my arms hurting and my entire body sweating.

With this duvet, though, I simply shove my comforter inside, pull all four corners from the inside to line up with the corners of the duvet, and zip the duvet closed. Then, I grab the two bottom corners and wring out the duvet, which effectively distributes the comforter evenly inside. It’s so light and easy, and it doesn’t feel like I’m doing an involuntary arm workout.

Other general benefits of sleeping on silk bedding is that it’s hypoallergenic (Lilysilk’s materials are also GOTS-certified) and moisture-wicking. Plus, it’s not as rough on the skin as textured materials like linen. As a result, silk is often recommended for people with sensitive skin. Although I can’t say I’ve seen a definitive change in my skin since getting my duvet, I do love the satiny feel.

The 19 momme silk duvet is obviously a splurge, but I think quality bedding is worth splurging on. The next time you’re looking for a fun way to treat yourself or spoil a loved one, definitely keep this luxe bedding staple in mind.
