Lowe’s Is Giving Away a Holiday Storage Gem for Free, and It Solves the Biggest Gifting Problem
Birthdays require shopping for only one person, but holidays like Christmas can have you coming home with loads of gifts. In addition to figuring out where to put all the gifts you buy, you also have to make sure the people in your house don’t see their gift before it’s time to open them — especially if the magic of Santa is still alive in your home.
According to a new survey from Lowe’s, 57% of children “have found or opened a gift before the holidays,” and “39% of parents have been caught by their kid while wrapping their gifts.” So this year, the home improvement chain is giving away a handy solution that will help ward off gift-snoopers of any age that may be lurking around your home as December progresses.
Lowe’s Is Offering a Free Solution to Hide Gifts This Holiday Season
To help make sure your gift recipients are truly surprised, Lowe’s is offering shoppers a free box designed to be misleading and mundane — especially for kids. Instead of a Switch 2 box in the garage, for instance, it’ll look like you’re just storing a boring desk lamp. Kids will be way less likely to snoop! The promotion is called “Holiday Under Wraps” and it’s available at select Lowe’s locations from December 3, 2025 to December 19, 2025.
Although this promotion is primarily aimed at parents with kids, anyone living with another person — whether it’s your roommate, a family member, spouse, or significant other — will benefit from getting this free box, as it’ll keep your holiday surprise under wraps. Plus, although the boxes are made for storage, you could also use them as gift wrap — there’s something fun about watching a loved one (of any age) unwrap a gift, get confused about why you got them “just a storage bin,” then react with delight upon realizing there’s actually an iPad in there.
How to Get a “Holiday Under Wraps” Free Box from Lowe’s
This free promotion is for members of MyLowe’s Rewards or MyLowe’s Pro Rewards, which are completely free to join, and available at select stores in 10 different Lowe’s locations in the Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Chicago, and Charlotte areas. If you live by a participating Lowe’s store, all you need to do to get your not-so-special-looking box is walk into a Lowe’s store, ask an associate about it (or go to customer service), and show your proof of membership.
Customers can choose any of the three size options – small (16x12x12), medium (18x16x18), or large (18x18x24) — and it is limited to one box per customer.
Create Your Own Decoy Gift Box
If you live in the many areas where this Lowe’s promotion is not happening, there are other simple ways you can create the same decoy effect. If you have old boxes from previous package deliveries, put the gift you want to conceal in one box and then put that in a bigger box. Or, throw them off entirely and stash the gift in a file box labeled “tax stuff.” People surveyed by Lowe’s said some of the most notable gift hiding places they’ve used include cereal boxes, doghouses, and baskets of dirty laundry.
