When you picture the most comfortable, welcoming spots you’ve ever visited, a guest bathroom might not necessarily be at the top of your list. But you can turn even a basic one into a retreat-like room by combining a few items you might already have. Content creator Karissa Barker shared the recipe to create a luxurious bathroom oasis that your guests will definitely want to use over and over again.

“This is weird, but my friend’s house is the best place to go to the bathroom,” Barker (@karissaathome) said. “She’s just an excellent hostess, and it’s always so welcoming. And I think my other friend and I cracked her code.”

In the video (that has over 6,000 likes on Instagram), Barker pans around her bathroom and explains how she integrated her friend’s four-step foolproof formula to easily transform her bathroom into a luxurious space. What makes the method so special is that you likely already have the items in your home. It’s all about pulling them together. And Barker, who’s an author and DIY and homemaking content creator, knows a thing or two about creating cozy spaces (she has over 700,000 followers on TikTok alone).

How to Easily Create the Most Luxurious Bathroom Experience

To start, a yummy scented candle not only makes the space smell nicer, but the ambience of the flame is super calming. Secondly, plants (even faux greenery!) can also make a bathroom feel fresher and well-maintained — some plants also love humidity, like steam from a shower, so it’s a win-win for everyone!

Next on the list: Making the switch to a fragrant lotion or even a decorative hand soap can take a bathroom from basic to intentional. Lastly, investing in a few fluffy or waffled 100% cotton towels, like these from Target, can give your guest bathroom a bit of personality and make your guests feel like you’ve splurged a bit just for them.

“She always has a candle lit, a pretty plant, the good towels, and a good-smelling lotion,” Barker said. Easy and brilliant!

It’s no surprise people fell in love with the process. “Umm yes I would like to go pee in there, toooo,” one person joked in the comments. Another said, “I need them all!!” And I’m one of those people. I’ll be doing all of the above so I can not only win Hostess of the Year but also treat myself to a knockout bathroom experience!

It doesn’t take much to turn a guest bathroom into one of the most welcoming rooms guests ever stepped foot into. A warm paint color, natural wood tones, and wall art can also go a long way. But start simple with this four-step upgrade, and your bathroom will already begin to feel like the best room in the house.
