One of my favorite things about living in Brooklyn, New York, is the coffee culture. There’s a cute, locally owned cafe on what seems like every block, and I love strolling around my neighborhood and seeing people hanging out on the front patios with their friends and dogs. It reminds me of Europe, where leisurely midday coffee breaks are the norm in many countries.

Finland has its own special brand of coffee culture known as “kahvihetki,” which translates to “coffee time.” This daily ritual takes center stage in a new collaboration between Blue Bottle Coffee and Finnish design brand Marimekko. Not only does the collab feature immersive cafe installations and an exciting new latte flavor at Blue Bottle Coffee shops across North America and Asia, but it also has some limited-edition drinkware goodies in a vibrant Marimekko print that you can buy in-store and online. Spoiler alert: They’re super cute! Next time you decide to partake in kahvihetki, you’ll have everything you need.

What Is Finnish Coffee Culture?

At the heart of the new collaboration is the Finnish philosophy that rituals elevate everyday life — specifically, the ritual of savoring your daily coffee and even dedicating time to enjoying the experience with no distractions. That’s exactly what kahvihetki refers to: coffee breaks characterized by an appreciation for mindful moments. When it comes to the coffee itself, “quality and craftsmanship take precedence over speed and convenience,” according to the release.

For a limited time, select Blue Bottle Coffee shops will offer a new latte flavor inspired by Finland’s korvapuusti, a cinnamon roll-style pastry, as well as exclusive merchandise featuring Marimekko’s signature Unikko print in a bold new colorway.

What Is the Marimekko and Blue Bottle Coffee Collection?

The limited-edition merchandise collection, available in select cafes and online, features coffee gear like a mug, tumbler, and other items. You can also buy containers of instant coffee in eye-catching jars. All of the pieces feature a lively green-and-blue Unikko print inspired by Nordic Green and Blue Bottle Coffee’s signature brand color.

There’s no way to look at this colorful drinkware collection and not feel an instant mood boost. The pieces are practical, and they’ll make you look forward to enjoying coffee breaks more at home. For a few moments out of your day, nothing will matter but your freshly brewed latte and your appreciation for life’s slower moments.
