See How I Transformed My Kitchen Sink with This $12 Eco-Friendly Gem
Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for cleaning products that have fewer plastics involved in their production and packaging from start to finish. However, I can’t tell you how many eco-friendly cleaning products I’ve tried that just don’t hold up in terms of cost or efficacy, leading me back to the plastic-packaged stuff that I am working so hard to ditch.
But a few months ago, I had the opportunity to try The Meliora Gentle Home Cleaning Scrub from Good Store, which is an online general store that donates 100% of its profits to charity, and it was a total game-changer. It solved my biggest eco dilemma: finding a sustainable product that actually works (and doesn’t break the bank).
What Is the Meliora Gentle Home Cleaning Scrub?
The Meliora Gentle Home Cleaning Scrub is made from just five ingredients: baking soda, sodium cocoate, glycerin, coconut oil, and water (that’s it!). It can be used all over your kitchen, bathroom, and on any hard surface in need of a good scrub, including stainless steel, porcelain, ceramic tiles, and stovetops (just avoid natural, unsealed stone or nonstick cookware).
To use it, simply sprinkle a little directly onto a wet surface or sponge, scrub, rinse, and wipe clean. It’s packaged in a cardboard and metal container and costs $10.80 for 12 ounces. You can choose between a Peppermint Tea Tree scent or an unscented version.
Why I Love the Meliora Gentle Home Cleaning Scrub
As mentioned, I often find that eco-friendly products are too expensive or aren’t effective enough — or both! This product couldn’t be more different. Here’s why it stands out.
A little goes a long way.
I’ve used the scrub to clean my sink once a week for almost two months, and the box is still over half full. I went with the scented option because I like when things not only look clean, but also smell clean. The peppermint smell is truly refreshing and emanates through the whole kitchen.
It’s really effective.
With just a little on a wet sponge, I was able to scrub my sink so clean that it literally gleamed. The scrub pulled up stains that I didn’t even realize existed. I thought the rings around my sink were a permanent feature; I had cleaned my sink so many times before, and they never came up. To my (disgusted) surprise, I realized I was wrong.
It’s good (or at least better) for the planet.
Meliora Cleaning Products is a Chicago-based, woman-owned cleaning brand that’s sold by Good Store’s EcoGeek line, which highlights a collection of nontoxic and eco-friendly cleaning products from small businesses, and 100% of the profits are donated to the Coral Reef Alliance’s Maui Watershed Restoration project.
At just $12 for at least three months worth of product, I really can’t recommend this enough!
